INDEX wave function analysis

The curing of an epoxy resin adj acent to an embedded silica optical fibre was monitored in situ by evanescent wave spectroscopy. The epoxy resin was partially fluorinated and had a lower refractive index than the silica fibre. The lower refractive index of the epoxy resin allowed the silica optical fibre to be used as a waveguide for the internal reflection of the near-IR light. The epoxy resin curing was determined as a function of time and temp, by analysis of the near-IR spectmm from the epoxy adj acent to the fibre obtained by the interaction of the evanescent wave that occurred at each internal reflection with the low refractive index epoxy resin. The results obtained showed that epoxy ring-opening and... [Pg.94]

A large number of measures can be derived from recordings of the spontaneous EEG. Time (index) or voltage (power)-based rates of typical frequency bands, as well as ratios between certain frequency bands (e.g., between the a and P band or the 0 and p band) within a selected time interval are most commonly used to quantify EEG patterns. Period analysis quantifies the number of waves that occur in the various frequency bands within a distinct time interval of the EEG record and is supposed to be more sensitive to task-related changes than spectral analysis (Lorig, 1989). Other parameters that describe the covariation of a given signal at different electrodes are coherence and neural synchrony. These measures inform on the functional link between brain areas (Oken et al., 2006). [Pg.285]

Apart from solid-liquid interfaces, also liquid-liquid interfaces can be investigated using PCS. As an example, the adsorption dynamics of proteins at the oil-water interface was measured [21]. However, changes in refractive index at the interfaces should be carefully considered in order to avoid misinterpretations. A thoughtful analysis of such effects has been performed by Donsmark et al. who determined the molecular detection function of their system using numerical wave-optical calculations [21]. [Pg.282]
