Many millions of tons of sulfuric acid, H2S04, are produced every year. Its uses are so wide that the amount consumed per year by a country can be taken as a crude index of the technological development of that country. Two manufacturing processes have widespread industrial importance and both will be described. These processes are so highly perfected that the cost of this useful chemical is only about S22.00 per ton ... [Pg.225]

The Technical Manual and Year Book of the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists 217) includes a very comprehensive annual index on chemical, physical, technological, and biological aspects of textiles. This index has developed from... [Pg.178]

These four indexes reflect the business operation of enterprises from four aspects the growth, age composition of employees, investment strength in technological development, and economic benefit. They represent the four dimensions of commercial age. [Pg.178]

With the development of the graded-index technology, POFs have become leading candidates for home networking. Since the first Gl POF was reported in 1982, considerable efforts have been made to enhance Gl PDF s performance. For practical applications, many problems have to be overcome. In particular, fiber attenuation and thermal stability have been major issues. [Pg.297]

Improvements in asthma treatment include the development of more effective, safer formulations of known dmgs. The aerosol adrninistration of P2-agonists or corticosteroids results in a decrease in side effects. Also, the use of reUable sustained release formulations has revolutionized the use of oral xanthines which have a very narrow therapeutic index (see Controlled release technology). For many individuals, asthma symptoms tend to worsen at night and the inhaled bronchodilatots do not usually last through an entire night s sleep (26,27). [Pg.437]

Readily available inherently safer technology databases which are cataloged, cross referenced and indexed need to be developed. These might take the form of libraries of information. Several examples of needed databases are ... [Pg.129]

Thin-layer chromatography (TLC) is used both for characterization of alcohol sulfates and alcohol ether sulfates and for their analysis in mixtures. This technique, combined with the use of scanning densitometers, is a quantitative analytical method. TLC is preferred to HPLC in this case as anionic surfactants do not contain strong chromophores and the refractive index detector is of low sensitivity and not suitable for gradient elution. A recent development in HPLC detector technology, the evaporative light-scattering detector, will probably overcome these sensitivity problems. [Pg.283]

Techniques have been developed for the quantification of fire propagation using FMRC s Small-Scale Flammability Apparatus (A,6) and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Flame Spread Apparatus (j J ). In this study, the FMRC technique was used. Oxygen Index and its dependency on temperature was used by AMTL to examine the fire propagation behavior of small samples of FRC materials (J 2). [Pg.543]
