The Formula Index links the molecular formulae of chemical substances with their CA Index Names, CAS registry numbers, and CA abstract numbers. Molecular formulae are arranged according to the Hill system order (see Section 10.1). [Pg.4]

MARPAT. The MARPAT File is a Markush search service (see Markush Structure Searching in Patents). It contains the Markush structure records for patents found in the CA File with patent publication year 1988 to the present. The records contain the Markush structures found in the claims and often the disclosure of the patent, the bibliographic information, in-depth substance and subject indexing including CAS Registry Numbers, and an abstract, all of which are displayable. The structures are structure-searchable. CAS roles... [Pg.295]

Crossfile search non standardized term. Mostfully used for a retrieval (Unction to process search results of a database automatically in another one, e.g. an answer set of CAS Registry Numbers, which are searched in the Registry File, can be processed in the CA File to search the corresponding literature. Sometimes the term is used for an index search. [Pg.294]

In addition to the numeric data (color, solubility, refraction index, spectra, etc.), these factual databases also include a bibliographic section with references or sources and a section with information for the identification of a compound (e.g., name, CAS Registry Number, molecular weight). [Pg.239]

There are variations in representation of rings in different disciplines. The dye industry does not designate aromaticity or double bonds in rings. AH double bonds and aromaticity are shown in the Encyclopedia as a matter of course. For example, tetralin has an aromatic ring and a saturated ring and its stmcture appears in the Encyclopedia with its common name. Registry Number enclosed in brackets, and parenthetical CA index name, ie, tetralin [119-64-2] (1,2,3,4-tetrahydronaphthalene). With names and stmctural formulas, and especiaHy with CAS Registry Numbers, the aim is to help the reader have a concise means of substance identification. [Pg.563]

In eadier Hterature carbonochloridic esters are referred to as chloroformates or chlorocarbonates because of the stmctural parallel with formic acid [64-18-6]., chloroformic acid, and carbonic acid. Before 1972, chloroformates were indexed in Chemicaly4bstracts, Eighth Collective Index, under formic acid, chloroesters whereas, in the Ninth Collective Index (Dec. 1990), they are referred to as carbonochloridic acid esters. Table 1 fists the common names of carbonochloridates or chloroformates, the CAS Registry Numbers, and the formulas. [Pg.37]

Almost all the entries in Chapters 4, 5 and 6 have CAS (Chemical Abstract Service) Registry Numbers to identify them, and these have been entered for each substance. Unlike chemical names which may have more than one synonymous name, there is only one CAS Registry Number for each substance (with only a few exceptions, e.g. where a substance may have another number before purification, or before determination of absolute configuration). To simplify the method for locating the purification of a substance, a CAS Registry Number Index with the respective page numbers has been included after the General Index at the end of the book. This will also provide the reader with a rapid way to see if the purification of a particular... [Pg.621]

Some of the rigidly systematic names selected by the Association for Science Education for their nomenclature list in 1985 from the IUPAC possibilities, and some of the systematic indexing names used by Chemical Abstracts since 1972, are given as synonyms in the Index of Chemical Names (Appendix 4). This should assist those coming into industry and research with a command of those nomenclature systems but who may be unfamiliar with the current variety of names used for chemicals. The inclusion where possible of the CAS Registry Number for each title compound should now simplify the clarification of any chemical name or synonym problems, by reference to the Registry Handbook or other CAS source. [Pg.2120]
