What a beautiful tool is cyanuric chloride for the chemist working in chemical synthesis Three chlorine atoms offer reaction with a large proportion of the chemicals listed in the Beilstein Handbook or the Chemical Abstracts Index. Not only that the chlorine atoms are reasonable enough not to react simultaneously but, under adequate conditions, stepwise, allowing myriads of potential combinations. Furthermore cyanuric chloride has been and is a relatively cheap key material it can be produced quite easily from such basic materials as chlorine and hydrocyanic acid. [Pg.16]

X-Ray Diffraction Data. The X-ray diffraction powder patterns of the cancrinites, referred to in the synthesis section, have been indexed in accordance with the space group P63 as found by Jarchow (16). The statement that the title should be descriptive of the matter of a communication seems to be a truism, but insufficient attention appears to be paid to the titles of papers submitted to learned journals. This is particularly true when papers are part of a series—for example, one of a series of papers may be entitled Studies in the Chemistry of X and Y, Part 47. Attempted Synthesis of Y. Suppose X and Y are complex alkaloids often such a paper deals only with the preparation of some complex ring structures—oxaazulenes, perhaps—from which the investigators hope ultimately to synthesize the subject of their main interest. Hence the paper is really about oxaazulenes and not alkaloids X and Y. The repercussions of this on indexing are serious. However, the new keyword in context indexes Chemical Titles) which are compiled by computer from titles of papers and used for awareness in the period between original publications and effective use of chemical and physical abstracts, may alter this. As special keyword indexes are compiled from titles, authors may give more thought to the relation of a title to its paper. [Pg.34]

The effect of microwave irradiation on chemical reactions is usually described by comparing time needed to obtain a desired yield of final products compared with conventional thermal heating. Research in the area of chemical synthesis has shown potential advantages in the ability not only to drive chemical reactions but to perform them more quickly. It can be summarized that the earlier studies focused more on health impact to humans in conjunction with the usage of biofuel and fossil fuel. Not until recently, the idea of inherent occupational health is being adopted into biomass processes. The works are actually done in a company with inherent safety assessment by Ng et al. (2013) and Liew et al. (2014) as described before in Section 14.6. Both used the Inherent Occupational Health Index (lOHI), an index-based method for inherent occupational health assessment of chemical synthesis processes. There are millions of different precursors for thousands of different dmgs, making it impossible for me to list all of them. I will stick with the more commonly called for items. If you need to find something that I have not listed, look in the Merck Index or Chemical Abstracts to find a reference of where the synthesis of this precursor can be found. The size and shape of ceria NCs are proven fo appreciably change the chemical and physical properties hence, their control in synthesis is one chief objective for study, and various nanoparticles, nanocubes, nanooc-tahedra, nanowires, and nanotubes have been obtained for this purpose. Owing to the cubic fluorite structure, ceria tends to form isometric particles, which present sphere-like morphology and are usually intermediates between the shape of cubes and octahedra. The major exposed crystal surfaces for ceria NCs are low index ones, that is, 100, llOj, and 111, with considerable surface relaxation and reconstructions.
