Purified CNTs significantly increased superoxide anion and TNF-a production after 1 h, and caused cell death. Unfortunately, no details of the CNT structure, synthesis, or handling methods were provided.

Numerous studies reported the in vitro interaction of lipoplexes with serum (14). The parameters checked, such as maintained lipid-DNA interactions, aggregate formation, zeta potential changes, or DNA morphological changes, did not allow for consistent prediction of in vitro transfection efficiency of lipoplexes in serum (15). However, it is obviously an indication of poor delivery of DNA at the target site. 

Biological characterization of the nanoparticles was carried out by monitoring in vitro interactions with hepatocytes isolated from rat liver [12], Haemagglutination inhibition test of erythrocytes with ricine agglutinin (RCA120) was carried out [13]. The fluorescence of the hepatocytes incubated with the FlTC-labeled nanoparticles was determined by means of a FACS Star Becto-Dickinson instmment.

There is an in vitro interaction between aminoglycoside antibiotics and carbenicUhn or ticarciUin, leading to a significant loss of aminoglycoside antibacterial activity if these antibiotics are mixed in the same infusion bottle (184). The extent of inactivation depends on the penicUhn concentration, the contact time, and the temperature. Azlocillin and mezlocUhn inactivate aminoglycosides in a similar manner to that described for carbenicUhn (185,186). Aminoglycosides should not be mixed with penicillins or cephalosporins in the same infusion bottle.
