In the East

At least in the short term, European production is expected to be impacted by two trends the move away from planned economics in the East should lead to more rapid demand growth and the phaseout of CPCs, including, in Europe, aerosols (qv), should lead to overcapacity in the West. This excess capacity in western Europe could be used to supply the East. 

A primary concern in coal-fired power generation is the release of air pollutants. Limits on SO2 output, 0.52 g/MJ equivalent of coal input to a new plant, have been estabflshed. Eor a bituminous coal of 27.9 MJ/kg there is thus an upper limit of 0.72% sulfur content. Relatively few coals can meet this requirement. The U.S. Department of Energy indicated recoverable reserves of 420 x 10 t in 1987 (2) that were categorized by sulfur content 33.5% had 0.6% S or less, 15.4% had between 0.61% and 0.83% S, 16.1% had between 0.84 and 1.67% S, 12.4% had between 1.68 and 2.50% S, and 22.6% had more than 2.5% S. The lowest sulfur coal, 86%, is found west of the Mississippi River, mainly in Montana and Wyoming, quite distant from the electric power demand centers in the East. A trend to utilization of the western coals has developed. 

In the Slimmer of 1989, Rutland Water, the largest man-made lake in Western Europe and which supplies potable water to approximately 500 000 people in the East of England, contained a heavy bloom of Microcystis aeruginosa. By the end of the summer, a number of sheep and dogs had died after drinking from the bloom and concentrated scum. Analysis revealed that the cyanobacterial bloom material was toxic to laboratory mice, and that rumen contents from a poisoned sheep contained fivemicrocystin variants.Microcystins were detected in waters used for recreation in Australia at concentrations greater than 1 mg per... 

In the easting procedure of the dual volute pump, a second cutwater is designed 180° opposite the first cutwater and another volute channel added. This way, all areas e.xposed to velocity and pressure around the volute easing are equal. All forces around the volute are equalized or eaneelled (Figure 9-15). 

Atmospheric haze has been observed in both the western and eastern portions of the United States. Typical visual ranges in the East are <15 miles and in the Southwest >50 miles. The desire to protect visual air quality in the United States is focused on the national parks in the West. The ability to see vistas over 50-100 km in these locations makes them particularly vulnerable to atmospheric haze. This phenomenon is generally associated with diffuse or widespread atmospheric degradation as opposed to individual plumes. 

In the east, a New York Public Service Commissioner testified before Congress in mid-1973 in support of appliance efficiency standards, even before the energy crisis, and New York State began to adopt its own appliance efficiency standards in 1976.

Hard underground waters, mainly in the East and South of England, mostly from chalk, sandstone or limestone strata. 

There has been an increasing level of nitrate contamination of borehole supplies in the east of England, because of the use of agricultural fertilisers since the Second World War . Nitrates are known to exacerbate certain corrosion processes e.g. at soldered joints however the maximum value allowed for this ion by the EC drinking water directive (50 mg NO3 r ) should limit its significance. 

Other new restaurants like Matsuri,Tadashi Ono s sushi commissary underneath the Maritime Hotel in Chelsea, and Temple, a Korean restaurant in the East Village, are serving pickled lemons and calamansi limes, mangosteen puree, soursop and yuzu fruits—... 

Remedy has come and gone, but interest in sake has only broadened. Decibel in the East Village, which caters to a punk-rock and sake-drinking crowd, is a good starting point for would-be connoisseurs.

Safflower, also known as bastard saffron, is a yellow dye that has been used for well over three millennia, having been identified in fabrics from the Egyptian twelfth dynasty. It is derived from the safflower plant, carthamus tinctoria, native to southern Asia and the Middle East. The coloring matter in the plants is a mixture of two components one is yellow, known as safflower yellow B the other, carthamin, is red. Safflower yellow B dissolves in water when fresh safflower flowers are washed with acidulated water. Evaporating the water from the filtered solution leaves the dye as a residue in the form of a powder. Following removal of the yellow component, the red constituent of safflower, carthamin, can be extracted from the flowers by washing them with hot water. In the East, carthamin was widely used in the past, mainly for making cosmetic preparations. 

The field response of the European pine sawfly, Neodiprion sertifer, to the acetate of (2S,3S,7S)-3,7-dimethylpentadecan-2-ol 1 and the effect of the (2S,3R,7R)-iso-mer was studied from Japan in the east to Canada in the west. The addition of the (2S,3R,7R)-isomer was benign in Japan, inhibitory in Europe with the inclusion of as little as 1%, and its presence essential in Siberia. These findings will allow for the development of a more efficient N. sertifer monitoring scheme without having to determine the stereochemistry produced in each population [27]. 

For DDE predicted surface ocean concentrations are overestimated in the Gulf of Alaska, the Bering Sea, the Chukchi Sea, and the North Atlantic. In all of these regions also the atmospheric concentration was overestimated. This indicates that the strong overestimation in these regions is caused by enhanced deposition from the atmosphere, and amplified by low volatilisation due to low mean surface temperatures.
