Impala

South Africa is by far the largest producer of primary (newly mined) PGMs. It suppHed 76% of the platinum used in the West in 1993, and over 50% of all PGMs. South African PGMs are mined as primary product. Other metals such as nickel, copper, and cobalt are by-products. The principal PGM mining houses in South Africa are Anglo American Platinum Corporation (Amplats), Impala Platinum, Lonrho South Africa, and Northam Platinum.

Impalas (Aepyceros melampus) found dead in Kruger National Park, South Africa, had elevated concentrations of copper in livers (maximum 444 mg/kg FW) and kidneys (maximum 141 mg/kg FW) authors assert that copper poisoning is the most likely cause of death (Gummow et al. 1991), but this needs verification. Copper concentrations in bones, kidneys, and livers of white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) near a copper smelter and from distant sites are about the same. However, deer near the smelter have significantly elevated concentrations of cadmium in kidneys and livers, lead in bone, and zinc in kidneys (Storm et al. 1994).

The FID library was applied to the task of predicting the protein folds encoded in complete genomes using the recently developed program IMPALA, which is a modification of PSI-BLAST that effectively reverses the search protocol (Schaffer et al., 1999). PSI-BLAST compares a PSSM to a database of sequences by contrast, a single search by IMPALA is a comparison of a sequence to a library of PSSMs (Fig. 3B). Statistical tests with IMPALA have shown that the theory used for the evaluation of BLAST results is applicable with minimal modifications.

Ford offers E85-capable F-150 pickup trucks, Ford Crown Victorias, Mercury Grand Marquis and Lincoln Town Cars. At GM, flexfuel technology is available in the Chevy Avalanche, Chevy Impala, Chevy Monte Carlo, Chevy Tahoe, GMC Yukon and GMC Sierra. Numerous other flexfuel cars are available in the U.S., including models from Chrysler and Mercedes. 

Impala offers a relatively large interior and trunk, while delivering as much as 29 mpg on the highway for the 2009 model.
