Another important technology in the national security and homeland defense arena is ion trap secondary ion mass spectrometry. Many chemical warfare agents are not volatile and tend to condense on particle surfaces. Research at Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratories has used this technology to analyze mustard agent on the surface of soil particles down to a surface coverage of 0.07 monolayers. [Pg.85]

Based on the demonstration of the DeHg process on wastes from the U.S. Department of Energy s (DOE s) Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory and the East Tennessee Technology Park, the vendor estimated that the costs associated with treating more that 1500 kg of waste contaminated with elemental mercury would be 300/kg. This estimate did not include the disposal costs of the treated wastes (D210480, p. 172). [Pg.331]

At the Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory (INEEL), the basic system installation cost was about 3.47/ft, for a total cost of about 34,700. This figure does not include site characterization and monitoring costs (D192921, p. 10). [Pg.954]

UNEX [UNiversal EXtractant] A process for removing all the major radioactive elements from nuclear processing liquors in one step, using a mixture of complex extractants. Developed from 1994 by an international team from the Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory (United States) and the Khlopin Radium Institute (Russia). [Pg.378]

Five-gallon size waste forms were fabricated. Typical waste loading was 35-40 wt%. A small amount of potassium sulfide was added to the Ceramicrete binder mixture for stabilization of Hg, and dense and hard ceramic waste forms were produced. Just before solidification, TCLP results were obtained on small aliquots of the mixing slurry that was separated and allowed to set. Mercury levels in the leachate were found to be 0.05 /rg/1, well below the LfTS limit of 0.025 mg/1. The entire waste was treated, removed from the inventory, and sent to the Radioactive Waste Management Complex at the Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory for disposal. [Pg.209]

A vapour generator developed at Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory (INEEL) was used to generate the PETN, RDX, and TNT vapour streams. Flowing ambient air through a reservoir containing PETN TNT or RDX generated the vapour stream. The reservoir consisted of... [Pg.255]
