The need for rapid methods is apparent in accident and similar situations. An impulse to the development of rapid methods is also provided through the so-called coordinated research program of IAEA, Vienna. Here we shall present some of the methods reported in a Research coordination meeting on Rapid Methods held in Vienna in 1991.

In the frame of the programme of the IAEA coordinated research on nuclear desalination in 1999-2000, NIKIET specialists have performed activities on the following subject, Application of Russian small size reactors as the energy source for nuclear desalination facilities (NDF) Optimization of the reactor interfaces with desalination plants, the performance and economic indices of NDF . In particular, proposals have been made with regard to using the RUT A as a source of heat for evaporation based desalination plants the schematic diagram of the reactor and desalination equipment interface has been developed and the economic evaluation of the NDF RUTA has been performed based on the desalination economic evaluation program (DEEP). 

Recently, advances in the treatment of graphite waste have been made with international research programs including EURATOM Framework Programme (CARBO-WASTE FP7-211333) [71] and IAEA Coordinated Research Programme [72] in order to establish best practices in the retrieval, treatment, and disposal of irradiated graphite and other carbonaceous waste. 

Heat transfer under supercritical conditions has already been widely investigated (Pioro et al. 2002) and provides a literature survey. The IAEA is coordinating an international cooperative research program on heat transfer behavior and thermohydraulic code testing for SCWRs, which is intended to lead to issue of a TECEXXl report.
