Water reaction with hydrogen chloride

SELENINYL CHLORIDE (7791-23-3) Reacts with moisture in air, forming hydrogen chloride. Reacts with water, forming hydrochloric acid. A strong oxidizer. Violent reaction or explosion with reducing agents, antimony, cesium, francium, lithium, light metals, metal oxides, potassium, sodium, phosphorus. [Pg.1061]

Consider the reaction of hydrogen chloride gas with water to form hydrochloric acid ... [Pg.353]

Some covalently bonded substances react with water rather than dissolving in it. For example, hydrogen chloride reacts with water to form hydrogen ions and chloride ions, and the ions are soluble. Silicon chloride reacts with water to form hydrogen ions, chloride ions and silicon dioxide. This reaction is called a hydrolysis reaction. [Pg.77]

Chemical Reactivity - Reactivity with Water. Reacts violently with water, liberating hydrogen chloride gas and heat Reactivity with Common Materials None if dry. If wet it attacks metals because of hydrochloric acid formed flammable hydrogen is formed Stability During Transport Stable if kept dry and protected from atmospheric moisture Neutralizing Agents for Acids and Caustics Hydrochloric acid formed by reaction with water can be flushed away with water. Rinse with sodium bicarbonate or lime solution Polymerization Not pertinent Inhibitor of Polymerization Not pertinent. [Pg.14]

A solution of 0.1 mol of 1-cyclohexylamino-2-propanol in 30 grams of chloroform was saturated with dry hydrogen chloride gas, with cooling. A solution of 0.1 mol of benzoyl chloride in 30 grams of chloroform was added and the solution was heated in a bath at 50° to 55°C for four days under a reflux condenser protected from atmospheric moisture. Then the solvent was removed by vacuum distillation while the mixture was warmed on a water bath. Benzene was then added to the syrupy residue and the reaction product crystal lized out after the benzene was removed by vacuum distillation. [Pg.768]

Reactions with water, e.g. reaction of phosphorus oxychloride with water to produce gaseous hydrogen chloride ... [Pg.54]

The equations that represent the reactions with water support the prediction that NH4NO3 dissolves to form an acidic solution and Na3P04 dissolves to form a basic solution. Calcium chloride is the salt of a strong base-strong acid, so neither ion reacts with water and the solution is neutral. Both ions in ammonium hydrogen carbonate react with water. Because Kt, for HCOs" is greater than for NH4, the salt dissolves to form a weakly basic solution. [Pg.424]
