Hybrid trial design

Hybrid trial designs also have been used under certain circumstances. These generally combine elements of both historical and randomized control studies. They may be of particular interest if a substantial amount of control data are already available in the literature. The choice of the arbitrary primer to be used for amplification is of great importance. Primers should not form secondary structures with themselves. Therefore, internal hybridization sequences and palindromes should be avoided. The length of the primer for which the protocol below is designed should be 17-20 bases. We carried out an experiment to determine whether the two new hybrid techniques support a wider range of tasks. Twelve participants (8 male and 4 female) were involved. We compared WinHop and Multiscale Zoom to Zoom, Hop and DragMag. The study used the six tasks described earlier. The design consisted of a 5x6 within-participants factorial design. The factors were Navigation technique (WinHop, Multiscale Zoom, Hop, Zoom, and DragMag), and Task (Existence, Location, Object Count, Proximity Between Objects, Proximity From Reference, and Cluster). With 12 participants, 5 navigation techniques, 6 tasks and 5 test trials, the system recorded a total of 1800 trials. [Pg.720]

The assessment of compositional equivalence, livestock nutritional performance, and safety in rodent feeding studies share many common features. All these studies involve test, control, and reference groups, a specified experimental design that involves randomization and replication, followed by data collection (measurements) and lastly, evaluation (statistics). The study plan for the compositional analysis of maize has been described in detail previously (11) and is summarized in Table 1.
