Hybrid organic-inorganic ligands

In the present volume, our intention was to cover several modern approaches to phosphorus chemistry which were not, or at least not completely, covered in the previous volumes. The selected topics are expected to have broader relevance and to be interesting to a more general readership, since key aspects of phosphorus chemistry are pointed out. Indeed, several fields are investigated coordination chemistry, catalysis, supramolecular chemistry, biochemistry, hybrid organic-inorganic materials, new ambiphilic ligands, and biology. 

A new family of hybrid organic-inorganic catalysts with dispersed active sites inside ordered mesoporous materials has been prepared by anchorage of transition-metal ligands of Schiff base-type and chiral amino alcohols like (li ,2S)-ephedrine on micelle-templated silicas [180]. Metalation of the grafted ligands with manganese was followed by UV-VIS spectroscopy. 

These cage structures can be derivatized with heteroatoms (539) to form catalysts or organic ligands that can act as precursors to hybrid organic/inorganic materials (540) or ligands (536).

Recently Raman et al. [74] proposed a new approach to microporous silica membranes based on organic-inorganic polymers prepared by co-pol)oneriza-tion of tertraethoxysilane (TEOS) and methyltriethoxysilane (MTES). The hybrid polymers were deposited on commercial asymmetric alumina supports. Heat treatments were employed to density the inorganic matrix and pyrolyse the methyl ligands, creating a continuous network of micropores.
