Hostile environment Plate

Special quality steels - A vast range of special quality steels is made in electric arc furnaces by adding other metals to form steel alloys. The most commonly known of these is stainless steel, which has chromium and nickel added to form a corrosion-resistant steel. There are very many others however the very hard steels used to make machine tools, the steels specially formulated to make them suitable for engineering, steels developed to survive for decades the hostile environment of nuclear reactors, light but strong steels used in aerospace, extra tough steels for armor plating - to name but a few. [Pg.116]

These are typically built on a polyester base membrane (PETP, 35 pm, copper-laminated) with a polyester spacer membrane, safety chamber and front membrane. The snap disc being gold plated stainless steel. Other designs use electrical contacts made from silver, silver on carbon or carbon only. Keypads may also be made from conductive silicone rubber. Conventional computer keyboards made from ABS, polyester or other polymers, may be covered by a polymer overlay to protect it against dirt, dust, water or other substance present in a hostile environment. Polyester and PVC overlays are used in a wide variety of applications with computer and instrumentation equipment in dental and medical healthcare and other areas. Typical casing materials include PC and polychloroprene. [Pg.35]

If any of the listed or other unusual drive conditions are found, contact an ACA roller chain manufacturer for assistanee. Many ehain manufacturers offer self-lubricating, sealed joint, corrosion-resistant, plated, coated, or other specialty chains designed to operate in particular hostile environments. [Pg.138]

Carbon and alloy steel roller chains are not well suited to corrosive conditions, but there are plated chains available for use outdoors and in wet conditions. There are also stainless steel chains available for use in caustic or acidic conditions. Finally, there are a few types of stainless steel chains that are very resistant to stress corrosion cracking. Consult a roller chain manufacturer for material recommendations when a hostile environment is known or anticipated. [Pg.279]

The ion optics, shown in Figure 6.1, are positioned between the skimmer cone and mass separation device and consist of one or more electrostatically controlled lens components, maintained at a vacuum of approximately 10 torr with a turbo-molecular pump. They are not traditional optics that we associate with ICP emission or atomic absorption, but are made up of a series of metallic plates, barrels, or cylinders, which have a voltage placed on them. The function of the ion optic system is to take ions from the hostile environment of the plasma at atmospheric pressure via the interface cones and steer them into the mass analyzer, which is under high vacuum. The nonionic species such as particulates, neutral species, and photons are prevented from reaching the detector by using some kind of physical barrier, positioning the mass analyzer off axis relative to the ion beam, or electrostatically bending the ions by 90° into the mass analyzer. [Pg.39]
