Within a federal Environmental Agency research project to develop a biological test for hormone-mimetic compounds using the freshwater snail Marisa comuarietis, the effects of the suspected xenoestrogenic substance BPA, not only on freshwater but also on marine prosobranch snails, were investigated (Schulte-Oehlmann et al. 2001). 

In search for mimetics ofthe thyroid hormones, more than a hundred analogous compounds were prepared and the structural requirements for thyroxine-like potency investigated in binding studies, e.g. at the rat liver nuclear receptor (Fig. 6.28 and Tab. 6.1). [85]...
