Home peeling

Except in cases where the doctor wishes to increase the depth of peel penetration intentionally, patients must be warned not to use exfoliating scrubs on their skin during the days before a peel. If the patient uses an exfoliating scrub, or a home-peel , as it is known for marketing purposes, it may be uneven and enhance penetration of the acid locally. 

Lead dust can also be created when minute particles in the air outside enter through open doors and windows and settle down inside our homes. Peeling or chipping lead paint from the exterior of our homes, for example, can find its way into household dust this way. If your home is near an industry that emits lead into the air, this also can contaminate your household dust. 

What you want if you re making fusion cocktails at home is a designated bartender, as much as a designated driver, or you could be faced with a round of Moroccan martinis. I preferred Tabla s lime drop, a gin and lime with peeled, chopped ginger in it, which adds a nice tasty burn to the drink s sweetness and sourness. Mr. Cardoz said it was an homage to his father, who would drink a gin with lime every Saturday. 

Following the peel the skin is carefully observed for any complications such as hyperpigmentation and infection. Results are maintained with serial peels and by using at-home tretinoin or glycolic acid, as well as by sun avoidance. 

Once the desired frost is achieved, the skin can be rinsed off with water, or cooled down with cool wet compresses which are applied to the skin. The wet compresses can provide a welcome relief to the burning induced by the peel. Unlike glycolic peels the water does not neutralize the peel, as the frosting indicates the end-point of the reaction rather, it dilutes any excess TCA. The compresses can be repeated several times until the burning sensation has subsided. Subsequently, a layer of ointment such as plain petrolatum or Aquaphor is applied and post-peel instructions and what to expect are reviewed with the patient prior to discharge to home. 

Figure 6.5 shows the structures of tra 5-cinnamic acid and four cinnamic acid derivatives (phenolic compounds) reported to be present in potatoes. Because potatoes are one of our major food plants, we validated with the aid of HPLC and LC/MS the content and distribution of antioxidative phenolic compounds in parts of the potato plant, in potato tubers, in the peel and flesh of tubers, in potatoes sold commercially in Korea and the United States, and in home-processed potatoes. The following discussion, based on our own studies, is followed by a brief overview of analytical methods for potato phenolic compounds by other investigators. 

Both Time (February 25, 1991) and Newsweek (July 15, 1991) had feature articles on lead poisoning in children not only from peeling paint in ancient tenements and leaded gasoline remnants found in the soil of the inner city, but in the remodeled older homes of middle income families. Lead is almost ubiquitous and very insidious in its effects. 

Vegetables and fruits are prepared as appropriate for typical in home preparation methods (e.g., by removal of outside leaves, peeling, coring). Larger items such as cabbages, may be quartered, and then one quarter from each of the individual samples cut and mixed. Smaller items are cut and mixed. Further subsamples of the individual samples (e.g., 100 g depending on the number of individual samples collected initially) of the cut mixed materials are taken and these subsamples bulked and thoroughly mixed. 

Decay after hydro-cooled fruit are allowed to come to ambient temperature, as in markets or homes, frequently exceeded that of non-hydro-cooled fruit (266). Peel injury, particularly of Pineapple oranges, was often increased by hydro-cooling. 

Easter egg dyes are natural dyes that can be found around the home. They include blue from cabbage leaves or blueberries, orange from yellow onion skins, red from cranberries or raspberries, pale green from spinach leaves, and light yellow from orange or lemon peels. Dyes often have different colors in acidic and alkaline solutions. This enables them to be used as acid-base indicators. Many dyes are utilized as biological stains, see also Cosmetics Perkin, William Henry Pigments. 

A simple and safe home experiment can be carried out by squeezing an orange peel near a candle flame. The oils of the peel produce tiny flashes... 

Being alone is of course not in itself a contraindication to a phenol peel. The dramatic results of a peel could bring couples back together, but a few rules are necessary for the patient s safety. The phenol formulas of today allow patients to remain on their feet the patient can go home almost immediately after a phenol peel. However, it does causes significant edema that can sometimes make it difficult for patients to open their eyes. It is therefore out of the question for a patient who lives alone to go home after the peel. The patient needs help to go about his or her daily life during the first 3 days after the peel. Clinics with hospital beds can keep patients in during the first few days or even the first week after a peel.
