High-quality coating

Roll coating of paint is the final process in a coil coating line. Roll coating is an economical method to paint large areas of metal with a variety of finishes and to produce a uniform and high-quality coating. The reverse roll procedure for coils is used by the coil coating industry, and allows both sides of the coil to be painted simultaneously.

The MOCVD process does not involve a new type of CVD reactor. The reactor used is basically a thermal CVD rector. Metallo-organic compounds are used as precursors usually in conjunction with other reactants to reduce the operating temperature required in a thermal CVD reactor. The precursors and equipment costs are high for MOCDV reactors. As a result MOCVD is used when high-quality coating is required. These reactors are typically open-type reactors that operate in the Torr to atmospheric pressure range. 

Finishes based on PVDF resin are formulated by licensed formulators and contain, in addition to PVDF resin, solvents and high quality pigments. These high quality coating systems have a proven history of performance when exposed to severe ultraviolet radiation for extended periods (over 30 yr) of time. 

The Clean Air Act has set strict limitations on the emission of certain VOCs, so new safer solvents are needed to replace them. One new spray system has been developed that yields a high-quality coating while emitting as much as 80% fewer VOCs of all types and none of the VOCs that are considered hazardous air pollutants. This system is called the supercritical fluid spray process. The solvent mixture for this process still contains some of the slow evaporating solvents that allow the coating to spread evenly but replaces the fast evaporating solvents with high pressure CO2. 

Hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI) is used for the production of polyurethane foam and exceptionally high-quality coatings. 

Most of these problems could be eliminated or prevented by using galvanized steel or high-quality coatings. Other problems can be overcome by using polymers and other alternative materials. 

Coatings may consist of one to three layers, depending on cost and quality. High quality coatings have a base or tie coat, an intermediate or filler coat, and finally a top coat. The base coat ensures adequate adhesion to the textile material. The intermediate coat is responsible for the system volume and the mechanical properties. The top coat determines the appearance and surface properties and also seals the surface.

Customer claims on spoilt paint can cause serious damage to the reputation of a brand. Especially professional users are dependent on high quality coating materials to keep their labor costs down. If recognized, spoilt material has to be re-collected from retailers in a very cumbersome procedure. 

From the above discussion it is clear that there has been a tremendous improvement in the technology of layer materials since 1956 when silica gel with standardized and reproducible properties became available for handmade thin layers primarily due to Stahl s constant efforts. Around 1966, factory-made precoated plates with high quality coatings were introduced. A further qualitative improvement was made around 1975 in the form of HPTLC plates which are currently enjoying much popularity. 

Usually power sources from 1 to 10 A are used (rarely 50-100 A), which at a voltage from 5 to 24 V or to 60 V ensure the realization of CP of modern underground and underwater objects. Due to the application of modem high quality coatings and insulation, the current demand for cathodically protected metal stmctures has decreased, creating new, beneficial conditions for the development of this technology, at the same time decreasing the hazard of pollution of the environment.
