Fan et al. [106] developed a high performance capillary electrophoresis method for the analysis of primaquine and its trifluoroacetyl derivative. The method is based on the mode of capillary-zone electrophoresis in the Bio-Rad HPE-100 capillary electrophoresis system effects of some factors in the electrophoretic conditions on the separation of primaquine and trifluoroacetyl primaquine were studied. Methyl ephedrine was used as the internal standard and the detection was carried out at 210 nm. A linear relationship was obtained between the ratio of peak area of sample and internal standard and corresponding concentration of sample. The relative standard deviations of migration time and the ratio of peak area of within-day and between-day for replicate injections were <0.6% and 5.0%, respectively. [Pg.192]

CEC is often inappropriately presented as a hybrid method that combines the capillary column format and electroosmotic flow employed in high-performance capillary electrophoresis with the use of a solid stationary phase and a separation mechanism, based on specific interactions of solutes with the stationary phase, characteristic of HPLC. Therefore CEC is most commonly implemented by means typical of both HPLC (packed columns) and CE (use of electrophoretic instrumentation). To date, both columns and instrumentation developed specifically for CEC remain scarce. [Pg.14]

High performance capillary electrophoresis is one form of free-solution electrophoresis. CE is useful to researchers and analysts working in areas in which traditional electrophoresis is customarily applied (e.g., biopolymer analysis) and also in disciplines not usually associated with electrophoretic analysis, such as inorganic ion analysis. The potential application areas of CE are vast, because this technique can separate a variety of ligates, from inorganic ions up to intact cells, using the same instrumental hardware designed for separations based on different physical-chemical mechanisms. [Pg.41]

This chapter discussed the concepts and principles of high performance capillary electrophoresis. A brief history of CE was followed by an analysis of the components of an CE system. Two types of separation were presented, electrophoretic migration and electroosmosis. Several types of CE were dis-... [Pg.61]

Electrophoretic assays may be used to characterize the purity and homogeneity of biopharmaceuticals, based mainly on an ability to differentiate chemical and molecular changes in the compound as a result of oxidation, denaturation, aggregation, and deamidation [11]. Well-established techniques include isoelectric focusing (lEF) and sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE), whilst high-performance capillary electrophoresis (HPCE), utilizing a variety of detection systems, may also be used for routine applications. [Pg.1563]
