High-gloss polishing

Figure 2.119 shows an irregular surface and reveals the previously described effect. Through insufficient ventilation, air is compressed between the mold surface and the melt. This creates a wavy component surface, which is perceived as irregular in high-gloss polishes. Figure 2.120 shows an error-free impression due to better ventilation.

Fine contours of the model surface are accurately transferred to the galvanized mold inserts through electroplating, such as genuine leather grains, skin texture, fine diamond cuts as used in micro-reflectors, high-gloss polish, etc. 

After the fault referred to above had been eliminated, there was still some dissatisfaction with the surface lustre of the watch glass, although the mould inserts were high-gloss polished. The required smface gloss could not be obtained until new mould inserts had been manufactured from non-porous vacuum steel (in accordance with the vacuum arc refining process). 

Use of a shoe poHsh imparts high gloss, maintains the supple hand of the leather (qv), and increases the weather resistance of the leather (3,57—59). Three general types of poHshes are produced solvent pastes, self-polishing Hquids, and emulsion creams. Solvent pastes represent ca 60% of the market (58).

Surface finish is another important property in some applications, but some materials can be difficult to polish to a high gloss, or they might corrode from contact with the resin... 

No-wax tile has long been important in the residential market. Such products have a high gloss surface coating that resists abrasion and soiling. When properly designed and maintained, no-wax tile retains its shiny appearance for an extended period of time without application of floor polish. 

A watei—in-oil emulsion polish which produces a high gloss, no smear, hard film when applied to Formica, as well as most kitchen appliances. 

Veegum stabilizes these watei—in-oil emulsions against separation or solvent phase bleed. In the auto polish, Veegum also keeps the mild abrasive uniformly suspended within the internal phase. Both compositions apply easily, dry quickly to a haze, and readily buff to a high gloss. 

The formulas listed above are suggested formulas. Every effort has been made to optimize all properties to get the best polish with regard to specific amounts of ingredients. Formula 1 is the best all around polish. It features excellent gloss, application ease and economy. Formula 3 is an example of light foam-type polish, and offers better removal of soil and emulsification of propellents. Formula 2 illustrates a high gloss formula with excellent protective qualities. 

Formulation 20-6 is a wax-free polish, which provides a high-gloss, detergent resistant finish on non-porous substrates. Simple application, without hard rubbing or buffing results in both depth of gloss and detergent resistance for extended propert i es. 

During the period between the first and second world wars a plastics business was developed based upon rennet casein from cow s milk, from soya beans or other pulses the reaction with formaldehyde gave a rigid plastic material which could be produced in light colours, mottle and pearlescent effects, and was capable of being machined and polished to a high gloss.
