The trans form, since it has no plane of symmetry is optically active and is resolvable and since on catalytic reduction it gives hexahydrophthalic acid (m.p. 309°C) and whose trans configuration is unambiguously established, therefore the trans configuration of XIII is also established. [Pg.108]

These theoretical results are confirmed experimentally. In attempts to prepare a resin with a ratio of the starting materials of HHPA diisopropanolamine 2.3 1 the mixture gelated. This is reflected in Scheme 1, example 1 (n = 2). If a ratio of HHPA diisopropanolamine 3.2 1 is chosen (Scheme 1, example 2, n = 5/6), the system does not gelate. By GPC analysis it was verified that the theoretical assumptions made in Scheme 1 are valid for this system. Besides the hyperbranched material, the presence of hexahydrophthalic acid is demonstrated. The quantity of the acid is in close agreement (29 %) with the calculated value (28%). [Pg.56]

Diethyl m-hexahydrophthalate has been prepared from cis-hexahydrophthalic acid, absolute ethanol, and sulfuric acid, and from cfs-hexahydrophthalic anhydride, absolute ethanol, and sulfuric acid. Diethyl cw-A -tetrahydrophthalate has been prepared from cfx-A -tetrahydrophthalic acid or its anhydride, ethanol, and sulfuric acid. Dimethyl cfx-A -tetrahydrophthalate and dimethyl cw-hexahydrophthalate have been synthesized by the procedures of this preparation. ... [Pg.17]

Tougher polymers of somewhat lower Tg are obtained from glycidyl esters such as the diglycidyl ester of hexahydrophthalic acid (Araldite CY-184 from Huntsman). The glycidyl esters are prepared by reacting the corresponding cycloaliphatic carboxylic acid with epichlorohydrin and dehydrohalogenat-ing with NaOH. [Pg.600]

Baeyer showed that reduced benzene rings acquire aliphatic properties. At first he adopted a centric formula for benzene in place of Kekule s (see p. 804), but as a result of this mass of work he announced in 1892 that no conclusion as to the structure of benzene derivatives can be drawn from their behaviour on reduction . In the course of this work he prepared cis- and mw -derivatives of hexahydrophthalic acid and introduced the names cis-and tram-. [Pg.786]

Epoxy resin (standard digycidyl ether of Bisphenol A) may also test positive and can be relevant, as epoxy compounds may be used to stabilise chlorinated paraffins, particularly in neat oils (Scerri and Dalziel 1996). However, cross-reactions to standard epoxy resin do not always occur. Epoxide 7 may be present as a corrosion inhibitor and cause sensitisation (Rycroft 1980), and cases of sensitisation to the glycidyl ester of hexahydrophthalic acid (an epoxy compound) have been found (English et al. 1986). [Pg.696]
