Heterogeneity, investigation

Several numerical procedures for EADF evaluation have also been proposed. Morrison and Ross [19] developed the so-called CAEDMON (Computed Adsorption Energy Distribution in the Monolayer) method. Adamson and Ling [20] proposed an iterative approximation that needs no a priori assumptions. Later, House and Jaycock [21] improved that method and proposed the so-called HILDA (Heterogeneity Investigation at Loughborough by a Distribution Analysis) algorithm. Stanley et al. [22,23] presented two regularization methods as well as the method of expectation maximalization. [Pg.247]

Studies of surfaces and surface properties can be traced to the early 1800s [1]. Processes that involved surfaces and surface chemistry, such as heterogeneous catalysis and Daguerre photography, were first discovered at that time. Since then, there has been a continual interest in catalysis, corrosion and other chemical reactions that involve surfaces. The modem era of surface science began in the late 1950s, when instmmentation that could be used to investigate surface processes on the molecular level started to become available. [Pg.283]

The microscopic understanding of tire chemical reactivity of surfaces is of fundamental interest in chemical physics and important for heterogeneous catalysis. Cluster science provides a new approach for tire study of tire microscopic mechanisms of surface chemical reactivity [48]. Surfaces of small clusters possess a very rich variation of chemisoriDtion sites and are ideal models for bulk surfaces. Chemical reactivity of many transition-metal clusters has been investigated [49]. Transition-metal clusters are produced using laser vaporization, and tire chemical reactivity studies are carried out typically in a flow tube reactor in which tire clusters interact witli a reactant gas at a given temperature and pressure for a fixed period of time. Reaction products are measured at various pressures or temperatures and reaction rates are derived. It has been found tliat tire reactivity of small transition-metal clusters witli simple molecules such as H2 and NH can vary dramatically witli cluster size and stmcture [48, 49, M and 52]. [Pg.2393]

Bulk Polymerization. The bulk polymerization of acrylonitrile is complex. Even after many investigations into the kinetics of the polymerization, it is stiU not completely understood. The complexity arises because the polymer precipitates from the reaction mixture barely swollen by its monomer. The heterogeneity has led to kinetics that deviate from the normal and which can be interpreted in several ways. [Pg.278]

Very extensive investigations have been conducted on the oxidation of methane over a number of heterogeneous catalysts, particularly —MgO... [Pg.341]

New photochromic dyes with electrocycHc reactions have been proposed on the basis of 1,5-electtocycHzation of heterogenous pentadienyl—anions (124). StiH newer are investigations into the photocycHzation of 2,4,6-tri-isoptopylbenzophenones for vinyl polymers ia the glassy state (133). [Pg.151]

Oxide-supported metals constitute one of the most important classes of heterogeneous catalysts, and for this reason they have been investigated by many techniques adsorption isotherms, IR of chemisorbed molecules, electron microscopy, EXAFS, etc. Flowever, the fact that they have been studied by so many methods proves that no one technique is totally satisfactory. [Pg.12]

Present research is devoted to investigation of application of luminol reactions in heterogeneous systems. Systems of rapid consecutive reactions usable for the determination of biologically active, toxic anions have been studied. Anions were quantitatively converted into chemiluminescing solid or gaseous products detectable on solid / liquid or gas / liquid interface. Methodology developed made it possible to combine concentration of microcomponents with chemiluminescence detection and to achieve high sensitivity of determination. [Pg.88]

There was studied dependence of sorption rate values of microamounts high listed elements from time of their contact with sorbents, pH media and means of equilibrium concentration. It is shown that owing to exchange of sorbents surface characteristics, its hydrating rate value and heterogeneity of sorbate and hydrolyzed forms of metals investigated interaction with surface can simultaneously proceed on several mechanisms. The contributions of various factors into adsorption of elements-analogues are depended from sorption conditions and nature of sorbent surface. [Pg.265]

In the present work the acid-base surface properties of three Al O samples for a chromatography are investigated acidic (I), basic (II) and neutral (III) ones with the using of heterogeneous titration of their suspensions by HCl and NaOH solutions. To establish the correlations between the acid-base and adsoi ption properties studied Al O the representatives of cationic dyes -diamond green (DG), fuchsine (F) and anionic dyes - eriochrom black T and chromic dark blue have been used. [Pg.266]

The electrocatalytic activity of novel redox films in regeneration of NAD/NADH has been investigated by means of chronoamperometry, hydrodynamic and potentiodynamic methods. In order to achieve the most efficient electrocatalytic properties indicated as both the highest heterogeneous rate constant and maximum sensitivity, the further optimization of electropolymerisation conditions has been made. [Pg.363]

The interaction of a simple fluid with a single chemically heterogeneous substrate has also been studied. Koch et al. consider a semiinfinite planar substrate with a sharp junction between weakly and strongly attractive portions and investigate the influence of this junction on the density profile of the fluid in front of the substrate [172-174]. Lenz and Lipowsky, on the other hand, are concerned with formation and morphology of micrometer droplets [175]. [Pg.66]
