Heterocyclic ring oxidation

The reactions of haloquinoxalines in which the halogen atom is bonded to the benzenoid ring have not been well studied, but by analogy with examples in the phenazine series it would seem probable that they are unlikely to be displaced with the same ease as those bonded directly to the heterocyclic ring. It is evident from the foregoing discussion that A-oxidation has a pronounced effect on their reactivity, and, by this means, considerable latitude in the specific functionalization of dihalo or polyhalo derivatives may be exercised. [Pg.176]

Hydrazino groups are also converted into H-compounds with mercury(II) oxide (74CR(C)-(278)427) in other reactions they have given hydrazones, or have been converted into pyrazoles and fused heterocyclic rings (77JAP(K)7785194), e.g. (72) -> (73). [Pg.211]

The sole known example of electrophilic substitution in quinazoline is nitration. Quinazoline gives 6-nitroquinazoline with fuming nitric acid in concentrated sulfuric acid. No oxidation of the heterocyclic ring can occur under these conditions because the hydrated cation (see Section IIA>4) is not present. This substitution is in agreement with theoretical calculation [see (2) and reference 36]. [Pg.264]

The stability of the heterocyclic ring toward oxidation by permanganate depends on the experimental conditions. In acid media the ring is not cleaved, and acetylisoxazoles are readily prepared from isopropenyl derivatives.2-Isoxazolines are dehydrogenated into isoxazoles (cf. 192 193). The stability of the heterocyclic ring is also observed when this oxidation is carried out in acetone solution. It is of interest that this method allows the preparation both of... [Pg.419]

Cacchi and Palmier (83T3373) investigated a new entry into the quinoline skeleton by palladium-catalyzed Michael-type reactions. They found that phenyl mercurial 134 was a useful intermediate for the synthesis of quinoline derivatives, and that by selecting the reaction conditions the oxidation level of the heterocyclic ring in the quinoline skeleton can be varied. On such example is shown in Scheme 16. PdCla-catalyzed coupling between organomercurial reagent 134 and enone 135 delivered adduct 136 which was subsequently cyclized to quinoline 137 under acidic conditions. [Pg.22]

A heterocyclic ring may be used in place of one of the benzene rings without loss of biologic activity. The first step in the synthesis of such an agent starts by Friedel-Crafts-like acylation rather than displacement. Thus, reaction of sulfenyl chloride, 222, with 2-aminothiazole (223) in the presence of acetic anhydride affords the sulfide, 224. The amine is then protected as the amide (225). Oxidation with hydrogen peroxide leads to the corresponding sulfone (226) hydrolysis followed by reduction of the nitro group then affords thiazosulfone (227). ... [Pg.141]

Due to the instability of the seven-membered heterocyclic ring, oxepin is prone to isomerization reactions to bicyclic heterocycles such as benzene oxide. Irradiation of oxepin with UV light of/. > 310 nm gives the isomeric 2-oxabicyclo[3.2.0]heptadiene(l) in high yield.12 207 At shorter wave lengths, phenol is formed predominantly.207... [Pg.44]

The sulfite group present in the heterocyclic ring of endosulfan is rapidly hydrolyzed by alkali. In the presence of atmospheric oxygen it then oxidizes divalent cobalt to cobalt(III). Phosphamidon, which contains a 2-chloro-2-diethylcarbamoyl group, ox-... [Pg.49]

The reaction of the a-bromo aldoxime 52e (R = R = Me) with unsaturated alcohols has been extended to the heterocyclic systems furfuryl alcohols and 2-thiophene methanol [29b]. The furanyl and thiophenyl oximes 63a-c were treated with NaOCl and the resulting heterocyclic nitrile oxides were found to undergo spontaneous intramolecular dipolar cycloaddition to produce the unsaturated tricyclic isoxazolines 64a-c in high yield (Eq. 5). In these cases, the heterocyclic ring acts as the dipolarophile with one of the double bonds adding to the nitrile oxide [30]. [Pg.10]

A more highly oxidized derivative of quinazoline forms the heterocyclic moiety of a compound with CNS activity. Condensation of the aminopropylpiperazine 141 with isatoic anhydride gives the anthranilamide 142. Reaction of that amide with phosgene gives directly the heterocyclic ring. (The reaction may proceed by initial formation of the carbamoyl chloride ... [Pg.386]

In recent years a number of new isoquinoline alkaloids of untypical structures, i.e., structures with open heterocyclic rings, have been isolated from natural sources. These bases were named secoisoquinoline alkaloids because they were believed to be produced in vivo from classic isoquinoline alkaloids as a result of various degradation processes causing oxidative cleavage of some bonds. [Pg.231]

Detailed investigations of the chemical reactivity of the diketiminato-stabilized phosphenium cations like 28 (Scheme 17) are to date rare and include only two reports dealing with the substitution and reduction of P-halogen-derivatives. Thus, reaction of 28 (X=Br) with sodium hydroxide in toluene was reported to proceed with displacement of the halide substituent at phosphorus and conservation of the heterocyclic ring to give a mixture of bromide and triflate salts containing a P-hydroxy-substituted cation, both of which were isolated in small yields [89], The products are remarkable as they represent one of very few examples of a stable phosphinous acid which does not rearrange to the tautomeric secondary phosphine oxide. Potassium reduction of the P-chloro-substituted derivative 34 produced the... [Pg.98]

Another compound 9 with three heterocyclic rings linearly fused (5 5 5) with two heteroatoms has been prepared from 1,1 -carbonyl diindole 297 <2001T5199>. Palladium-mediated coupling of the 2- and 2 -positions of 297 afforded the 1,1 -carbonyl-2,2 -biindolyl 9. 1,1 -Carbonyl diindole 297 was in turn obtained in 41% yield from 1,1 -carbonyldiimidazole 296 by reaction with indole in DMSO at 125 °C. The palladium-catalyzed coupling step afforded the desired product 9 in low yield and required a stoichiometric amount of palladium acetate. Therefore, it was felt prohibitively expensive. Addition of various co-oxidants (Ac20, Mn02, and Cu(OAc)2, etc) to make the reaction catalytic in palladium did not result in any improvement of the yield of 18 (Scheme 53). [Pg.671]

Two molecules with comparable geometry in an asymmetric unit were found for 3,4-bis(4-fluorophenyl)-l,2,5-oxadiazole 2-oxide. The bond length of the dipolar N-O bond is 1.107 (7) A <2006AXEo4827>. In the molecule of 5-(6,7-dimethoxy-l,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinolin-2-yl)-4-phenyl-l,2,5-oxadiazole Ar-oxide, the six-membered heterocyclic ring has a flattened boat form. Intermolecular C-H- O hydrogen bonds link the molecules into dimers, which may be effective in the stabilization of the crystal structure <2006AXEo3130>. [Pg.321]
