Vapour flashing

If a liquid near its boiling point at one pressure is let down to a reduced pressure, vapour flashing will occur. This will cease when the liquid temperature is reduced, due to removal of the latent heat of vaporization, to a temperature below the saturation temperature at the new pressure. As a result ... [Pg.20]

The EOS models are adaptable for mixtures of arbitrary complexity, with number and types of components only limited by hardware. Model runs with mixtures of over 100 components have been tested, and are perfectly feasible. Implemented within the software are four equations of state additional equations of state can easily be added. Also implemented are G models and mixture viscosities. Finally, the EOS models provide liquid- vapour flash calculations, liquid-liquid flash (designed for petroleum-aqueous solutions) and the generation of phase diagrams. [Pg.89]

Another method of avoiding a heat-transfer surface that may become fouled is to use a temperature-stable liquid in a bath on to which solvent is fed and from which vapour flashes leaving its residue behind. Such a technique is attractive for unstable solvents which decompose or polymerize if heated to their boiling point over long periods. The liquid being heated in the bath should ideally not dissolve the residue although if the concentration of residue in the feed is small and the liquid is a hydrocarbon fuel, it maybe possible to purge contaminated liquid to the fuel system. [Pg.68]

The first of these processes utilizes the cooling effect of vaporization. Seawater is sprayed into a low-pressure chamber, where some of the water vapour flashes off and the brine partially freezes. The ice-brine slurry is separated, and the ice crystals are washed and remelted. Commercial units based on this principle... [Pg.398]

Hexamethyiditin hexamethyidistannane, bi [(trimethyl)tin] ]661-69-8] M 327.6, m 23.5 , b 85-88 /45mm, 182 /756mm, d 1.57. Wash bis[(trimethyl)tin] with H2O and extract with C6H6, dry by filtering through powdered Na2S04, remove on a rotary evaporator and fractionally distil the oily residue under vacuum (b 85-88 /45mm). It boils at ca 182 at atmospheric pressure, but it cannot be distilled in air because the hot vapours flash in the condenser.
