A carcinogenic potential of some chlordimeform metabolites has been demonstrated. The US EPA s Office of Pesticide Programs has classified chlordimeform as a Group B2 - Probable human carcinogen based on findings of malignant hemangioendothelioma in mice.

According to the data submitted by the registrant to this Department, when mice were fed chlordimeform, a significant increase in the incidence of malignant hemangioendotheliomas was observed as compared to the control mice. This tumor incidence is presented in Table I.

Capsular retraction is usually associated with malignant tumors such as cholangiocarcinoma, epithelioid hemangioendothelioma, or metastases. This finding is very rare in benign liver tumors and has been described in very few hemangiomas (Fig. 8.9) (Yang et al. 2001).
