Heat-resistant truck inner tube

Halobutyls, which can easily covulcanize with high-unsaturation rubbers, are used in innerliners for tubeless tires as component for sidewalls of passenger-car tires and for heat-resistant truck inner tubes. Other applications involve a variety of sealant tapes, caulks, and pharmaceutical closures. [Pg.703]

The primary application for halobutyl rubber is in tires. The combination of low gas and moisture permeability, high heat and flex resistance, and ability to covulcanize with highly chemically unsaturated rubber has secured the use of these rubbers in the innerliners of tubeless tires. Passenger tires use chlorobutyl alone or in a blend with 20 to 40% natural rubber. High-service steel-belted truck tires use 100% bromobutyl innerliner compoimds. Chlorobutyl is also used for truck inner tubes for its superior heat resistance compared to butyl rubber. Halobutyl rubbers are added to sidewall compounds for improved ozone and flex resistance, and to certain tread compounds for improved wet skid resistance and traction. [Pg.207]

Tyre products Major products of dry NR for over 70% of NR consumption is used in tyres, especially heavy-duty tyres for trucks, buses and airplanes, and tyre products, such as pneumatic tyres and inner tubes for automotive use. The ability of NR to resist heat build-up makes the heavy-duty tyres much safer than those made from synthetic rubber. [Pg.65]

Brominated butyl rubbers are of interest for truck tyre inner tubes because of their heat resistance, in giant type inner tubes because they may be blended with natural rubber to give a useful combination of properties, and for a variety of other uses. [Pg.314]

Typical formulations and representative properties for heat resistant inner tube compounds intended for use in bias-ply and radial-ply truck tyres are shown in Tables 20 and 21. Crosslinked butyl is included in the radial tyre tube to provide green strength. Butyl reclaim could be used instead, for the same purpose. [Pg.193]
