Heat-resistant stability

High heat resistivity, stability against oxygen, extremely low friction coefficient. [Pg.51]

Stability of catalysts contains heat-resistant stability for high temperature and heat, mechanical stability for the effect of friction, impact and gravity as well as antitoxic stability for the effect of poison. [Pg.548]

Heat-Resistant stability. A good catalyst can maintain its activity at a certain level for a long time at reaction temperature. It is normal to come across high temperature in catal3dic reaction. For example, the ammoxidation could be processed at 900°C on the platinum net catalyst, while the reforming reaction of hydrocarbons should be at 1,300°C on the Ni catalyst. [Pg.549]

The accelerated aging test is adopted for most of the solid catalyst used in heterogeneous catal3dic reaction. For example, the test conditions of heat-resistant stability for China s AllO series, A2 series and A3 series iron catalyst are at 5 MPa, 30,000h and 500°C hold for 20h, the loss of the ammonia concentration of the reactor outlet is not higher than 0.5%, while literature was to evaluate the stability by the reducing degree of activity at 600°C hold for 16 h. [Pg.549]

Organosilicon polymers. Silicon resembles carbon in certain respects and attempts have been made to prepare polymers combining carbon and silicon units in the molecule with the object of increasing the heat resistance of polymers. It has been found that the hydrolysis of a dialkyl-dichlorosilicane or an alkyltrichlorosilicane, or a mixture of the two, leads to polymers (Silicones), both solid and liquid, which possess great thermal stability. Thus dimethyldichlorosilicane (I) is rapidly converted by water into the silicol (II), which immediately loses water to give a silicone oil of the type (III) ... [Pg.1020]

Nitrile mbber finds broad application in industry because of its excellent resistance to oil and chemicals, its good flexibility at low temperatures, high abrasion and heat resistance (up to 120°C), and good mechanical properties. Nitrile mbber consists of butadiene—acrylonitrile copolymers with an acrylonitrile content ranging from 15 to 45% (see Elastomers, SYNTHETIC, NITRILE RUBBER). In addition to the traditional applications of nitrile mbber for hoses, gaskets, seals, and oil well equipment, new applications have emerged with the development of nitrile mbber blends with poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC). These blends combine the chemical resistance and low temperature flexibility characteristics of nitrile mbber with the stability and ozone resistance of PVC. This has greatly expanded the use of nitrile mbber in outdoor applications for hoses, belts, and cable jackets, where ozone resistance is necessary. [Pg.186]

Polymer compositions containing pentaerythritol are also used as secondary heat-, light-, and weather-resistant stabilizers with calcium, zinc, or barium salts, usually as the stearate, as the prime stabilizer. The polymers may be in plastic or fiber form (87—89). [Pg.466]

Dimensional Stability. The wet heat resistance of PVA fiber is indicated by the wet softening temperature (WTS) at which the fiber shrinks to a specified ratio. At one time, the WTS was not more than 95°C for nonacetalized PVA fiber, but improvement of WTS has been achieved by improvement in heat-drawing and -treating techniques other methods proposed include suppression of polymerization temperature of vinyl acetate (36) and employment of alkafi spinning (37). [Pg.341]

Cross-linked macromolecular gels have been prepared by Eriedel-Crafts cross-linking of polystyrene with a dihaloaromatic compound, or Eriedel-Crafts cross-linking of styrene—chloroalkyl styrene copolymers. These polymers in their sulfonated form have found use as thermal stabilizers, especially for use in drilling fluids (193). Cross-linking polymers with good heat resistance were also prepared by Eriedel-Crafts reaction of diacid haUdes with haloaryl ethers (194). [Pg.563]

Main advantages of water inks include excellent press stability, printing quality, heat resistance, absence of fire hazard, and the convenience and economy of water for reduction and wash-up. [Pg.252]

The high thermal stability of the carbon-fluorine bond has led to considerable interest in fluorine-containing polymers as heat-resistant plastics and rubbers. The first patents, taken out by IG Farben in 1934, related to polychlorotri-fluoroethylene (PCTFE) (Figure 13.1 (a)), these materials being subsequently manufactured in Germany and the United States. PCTFE has been of limited application and it was the discovery of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) (Figure... [Pg.363]

The rubber has a very low of -68°C, excellent hydrolytic stability and excellent resistance to ozone, solvents and acids. In addition the rubber does not bum even in an oxidising atmosphere. Although its properties are virtually unchanged in the range -75 to + 120°C it does not possess the heat resistance of other fluoroelastomers. This polymer was marketed by Firestone in the mid-1970s as PNF rubber, but in 1983 the Ethyl Corporation obtained exclusive rights to the Firestone patents and the polymer is now marketed as Eypel F. [Pg.383]

PPO forms one of a group of rigid, heat-resistant, more-or-less selfextinguishing polymers with a good electrical and chemical resistance, low water absorption and very good dimensional stability. This has led to a number of applications in television such as tuner strips, microwave insulation components and transformer housings. The excellent hydrolytic stability has also led to applications in water distribution and water treatment applications such as in pumps, water meters, sprinkler systems and hot water tanks. It is also used in valves of drink vending machines. [Pg.589]

Excellent hydrolytic stability. (For example, PEK has very good resistance to hot water at 125°C, under which conditions other heat-resisting plastics such as the polyimides are liable to fail.)... [Pg.605]

As already indicated, cellulose acetate is used because of its reasonable toughness, transparency and wide colour range. It is not suitable when good electrical insulation properties, heat resistance, weathering resistance, chemical resistance and dimensional stability are important. [Pg.626]

Compared with more common plastics used as packaging materials, the compound does have some disadvantages, such as a high water vapour permeability and limited heat resistance, losing dimensional stability at about 70°C. It is also substantially more expensive than the high-tonnage polyolefins. Last but not least its biodegradability means that it must be used in applications that will have completed their function within a few months of the manufacture of the polymer compound. [Pg.627]

Compared with the phenolic resins they have a better colour range, track resistance and scratch resistance. They have a similar order of heat resistance, although their dimensional stability when exposed to hot dry conditions is not so... [Pg.684]

The finished mouldings have high dimensional stability, low water absorption and good resistance to tracking. They also exhibit good heat resistance and mouldings cU e said to have withstood temperatures of 200 C without undue deterioration. [Pg.775]

The chemical name for such materials is poly(bisbenzimid-azobenzophenan-throlines) but they are better known as BBB materials. Such polymers have a Tg in excess of 450°C and show only a low weight loss after aging in air for several hundred hours at 370°C. Measurements using thermal gravimetric analysis indicate a good stability to over 600°C. The main interest in these materials is in the field of heat-resistant films and fibres. [Pg.848]

Resistance to weathering. Zinc oxide and magnesium oxide stabilize poly-chloroprene against dehydrochlorination. Further, zinc oxide helps vulcanize the rubber, and magnesium oxide reacts with /-butyl phenolic resin to produce a resinate which improves heat resistance of solvent-borne polychloroprene adhesives. [Pg.629]

New copolymers based on a copolymerization of isobutylene and p-methyl-styrene with improved heat resistance have been reported [64]. Once copolymerization was accomplished, the polymer was selectively brominated in the p-methyl position to yield a terpolymer called EXXPO. In contrast to butyl and halobutyl, the new terpolymer has no unsaturation in the backbone and therefore shows enhanced thermal stability and resistance to oxidation. Useful solvent-based adhesives can be formulated using the new terpolymer in combination with block copolymers [65]. The hydrocarbon nature of the new terpolymer results in excellent compatibility with hydrocarbon resins and oils. [Pg.653]

It has been observed that all the phenoxaphosphine ring-containing polymers have excellent thermal stability and show better heat resistance than open-chain phosphorus containing polymers. The phenoxaphosphine polymers containing aromatic rings in the backbone show little degradation below 400°C in air. [Pg.47]

Poly(hydroxyphenyl maleimide)-b-PBA was added to thermosetting phenol resin to improve heat resistance [63]. PVC blended with poly(vinyl copolymer having cyclohexyl maleimide group)-b-PVC showed improved heat resistance and tensile strength with thermal stability during processing [64]. [Pg.763]
