Harmony policy

One of the conclusions from the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro (the Earth Summit) was the urgent need to find a more sustainable way of life, based on careful use of resources and a reduction in environmental emissions. There was also a call to move towards a model in which environmental enhancement is fully integrated with economic development. The consequences of this summit have been far-reaching not least by the fact that, in Europe and elsewhere, environmental protection requirements are now integrated into many policies rather than being separate pieces of legislation. Indeed Article 2 of the EC treaty states that the Community shall. .. promote throughout the Community harmonious, balanced and sustainable development of economic activities This may be viewed as the first step towards... [Pg.291]

The opposite of harmony is disharmony. An example of disharmony is the need to repeat tests using rabbits for pyrogen where testing for bacterial endotoxin is otherwise prescribed. This represents the most extreme disharmony of methods. But there is even a greater disharmony, and that would be to reach different eonelusions as to pass/fail the speeimen. In this ease, the quality control professionals must make a judgment as to whether or not this material can be sold in one or more regions. The NEPA of 1969, in an idealized view, systematized and provided a conceptual and structural framework for how the Federal government would deal comprehensively with environmental pollution in America and what would be expected of Federal agencies in implementing regulatory policies. Search for local trends and attitudes and maintain harmony with them. One good way of doing so is by utilizing as few foreigners as possible in the factory. Foreigners are often considered intruders.
