Hardware environment

Nested Summation Symbols are ideal constructs for programming in a suitable hardware environment, for example using transputer boards [51] or any computing device with various CPU runnixig in parallel [62]. All operations attached to each vector k can be run in a separate CPU. Counting the times this can be done in... [Pg.142]

While it is possible to group environmental expert systems under the traditional areas of development shown in Table II, an expansion of the categories of system development was used to better reflect the environmental areas of application. The 69 systems identified to date are presented in Table III. This table provides a short description of each system and information on the software and hardware environment, an indication of who developed the system and where, and a citation if the system has been described in the open literature. [Pg.12]

Both versions of TURBOMOLE offer a continuously adjustable SCF procedure that allows the user to tailor the fraction of the two-electron integrals stored on the disk to demands and limitations of the available hardware. Both the SCF and the HF gradient calculations are fully restartable—a feature that comes handy in hardware environments that experience not-so-infrequent system outages and interruptions. Semidirect MP2 energies and FIF energy second derivatives are available in TURBOMOLE together with a variety of built-in basis sets. [Pg.6]

To validate a computer system, one should ensure compliance of the application software, the computer hardware environment (hardware, peripherals and operating software), data, procedures and people. [Pg.313]

In any sampling, we must define the unit of sampling, the sampling frame, and the sample choice technique. For a human factors audit the unit of sampling is not as self-evident as it appears. From a job-evaluation viewpoint (e.g., McCormick 1979), the natural unit is the job that is composed of a number of tasks. From a medical viewpoint the unit would be the individual. Human factors studies focus on the task/operator/machine/environment (TOME) system (Drury 1992) or equivalently the software/hardware/environment/Uveware (SHEL) system (ICAO 1989). Thus, from a strictly human factors viewpoint, the specific combination of TOME can become the sampling unit for an audit program. [Pg.1135]

Development of new techniques for formally modeling and analyzing properties of the environment, as opposed to the behavior of the software. Such techniques must take into account the need to deal with inconsistent, incomplete, and evolving models. We expect such approaches will better support areas where RE has been weak in the past, including the specification of the expectations that a software component has of its environment. This facilitates migration of software components to different software and hardware environments, and the adaptation of products into product families. [Pg.276]

For accident analysis or investigation applications, obviously the accident situation is to be compared to some comparable situation. There are three basic alternatives for this comparable situation. First, it can be the same operation or organization at an earlier point in time. For example, compare the personnel, procedures, plant and hardware, environment, tasks, and other factors at the time of the accident with these same factors as they were one hour (or day or week or year) before the accident. The selection of the comparable point in time depends upon the nature of the operation and the speed at which significant changes occurred. [Pg.213]

The next step is to collect sufficient information about the proposed (or accident) situation and the comparable situation to understand fully the personnel, procedures, plant and hardware, environment, and tasks associated with each. If the change analysis is part of a design review, this step may entail only reviewing relevant drawings and project documentation. However, an accident analysis may require extensive collection and analysis of the people... [Pg.213]

Testing that all the software can operate in the integrated software-hardware environment. [Pg.62]

The C-mSHELL model consists of six components of Customer, management. Software, Hardware, Environment, and Liveware. In addition to these six components, the tasks allocated to cabin crew and the threats that may disturb cabin services have been added as the top-level nodes of the ontology tree. The ontology will be used for providing various supporting functions to cabin crew in making incident reports. [Pg.4]

Hardware environments are another challenge to compatibility, especially since the most obvious choice can be risky. When we developed STN Express it was obvious that this software should be compatible with the IBM PC. But since then, the Macintosh has become increasingly popular. There are fads and fashions in the computer market just as in other areas. Today, front-end software should work not only with the IBM and Apple PCs but also with the DEC, Commodore, and NEC, to name a few. Preferences vary over time and also by country. We have seen that the Commodore is rather popular in Germany and the NEC seems to dominate the Japanese market. Those brands are virtually unknown in the United States, while the IBM PC is relatively unfamiliar in Japan. STN Express currently works with MS-DOS the standard interface should also work with, at least, the UNIX and Macintosh operating systems. Perhaps more will be necessary in the future. [Pg.61]

The DARC Communication Modules currently installed with VMS 4.7 have been tested by Telesystemes with VMS 5 and only minor modifications have been required. Future releases of the DARC Communications Modules will take better advantage of the multiprocessor hardware environment of the new VAX series. As the current design of these modules is already based on parallel processing, the new VAX/VMS design appears to fit perfectly with the DARC Communication Modules concept. [Pg.104]
