Guide shoe

Float shoe. The float shoe may be placed at the bottom of the liner. This component is a combination of a guide shoe and a float collar. 

Film is usually extruded down onto a chill-roll assembly (Fig. 5 44103) gjjjj ig cooled and drawn by two or more water-cooled rolls while the surface of the chill roll imparts a finish to the film. Alternately, the film can be extruded down into a trough of water (Fig. 5.45 ). In the water bath, the film passes under a guide shoe before it is raised out of the water. Since chill rolls cool more efficiently than the water bath, they increase transparency and gloss, decrease haze, and provide a better surface finish to the extruded film. Consequently, chill rolls are preferred even though they are more expensive than a water bath. Water cooling is limited to films, such as tarps, where good surface finishes are not required. Chill rolls (Fig. 5.46 ) are also used in sheet extrusion. However, the sheet is typically extruded horizontally into nip between two chill rolls and then wrapped around another roll. 

Movable container-holders are provided with adjustable guide shoes to allow for exact alignment of the axes of container and press. The container-holder is further designed so as to permit of swiveling the container 360° as the liner wears more quickly on the die end than on the charging end. This of course calls for die centering- and sealing cones to be provided on either end of the liner. 

Access to cell rooms is usually restricted to authori2ed personnel. Required personal safety equipment includes mbber shoes or overshoes, goggles, hard hat, and some sort of emergency respirator. Safety training courses are generally required before one is allowed to enter a cell house without a guide. 

Crossheads, running in bored guides, have shim-adjusted babbitted shoes at top and bottom and either full-floating or fixed crosshead pins. Suitable for addition of balance weights. 

The spinneret was heated to 162°C and kept 1/2" above the spin bath liquid. After passage under a guide at the bottom of the spin bath, the fiber was passed over a water wash roll, a neutralizing roll rotating in 4% aqueous sodium carbonate solution, through a water bath at 95°C, over another wash roll, a steam-heated drying roll and was finally hot-stretched at 357°C over a hot shoe. The fiber obtained at 1010 fpm had a tenacity of 14.4 gpd, an elongation of 7.2% and an initial modulus of 303 gpd.

For very large tools shoe blocks were fitted to the cavities and hard bronze wear plates to the punch. With conventional guide pins and bushes the high lateral loads could easily cause guide-pin distortions. 

Brackets— This type of support may be welded to structural members or certain pieces of equipment. It may have a cantilever design or knee bracing for supporting heavy loads. Lines may be U-bolted, guided, or hung by rod hangers from the bracket or may rest on shoes.
