Guide for the Selection

If the test is to be a guide for the selection of a material for a particular purpose, the limits of controlhng factors in service must be determined. These factors include oxygen concentration, temperature, rate of flow, pH value, and other important characteristics. 

The values given in Figure 4-84 are Intended to serve as a guide for the selection of Initial ton-mile values as explained in Par. "Service Goal." These values are conservative, and ate applicable to all typical constructions of wire rope as recommended for the rotary drilling lines shown in Table 4-9. 

The following rules serve as guides for the selection of detectors in the authors laboratory. 

Table 4-3 is a guide for the selection of a crystal for a given analysis.. Iost of the commonly available crystals have been included and rated with respect to their relative effectiveness for the analysis of the different elements. The table suggests that most laboratories would need an LiF and an ADP crystal as a minimum.

The case of a simple first-order, irreversible reaction was briefly discussed in Section 1.3. In principle, with Eq. 1.3-5, one value of (C, t) suffices to calculate k when is known. In practice, it is necessary to check the value of k for a set of values of (C, r). This method, called the "integrar method, is simpler than the differential method when the kinetic equation flJ-4) can be integrated. When the order of the reaction is unknown, several values for it can be tried. The stoichiometric equation may be a guide for the selection of the values.
