NFPA 30A does not specify limits on the location of fuel dispensers except that they must be at least 6 m (20 ft) from any fixed source of ignition. Dispensers should be solidly mounted on a refueling island or some similar equivalent means. Protection should be provided in the form of bollards or guardrail to prevent errant vehicles from colliding with the dispenser. For above-ground tanks, dispensers can be mounted directly on the tanks. [Pg.141]

Simazine also became widely used in industrial weed control. It was effective, stable, and did not leach as readily as alternatives. Highway departments sprayed simazine under guardrails to eliminate the need for mowing. Railroads and utilities used simazine in mixes with other herbicides to get longer-lasting control of shallow germinating weeds. [Pg.34]

Combustible trim, excluding handrails and guardrails, cannot exceed 10% of the wall or ceihng area in which ASTM E 84 Class C it is located... [Pg.624]

Set out flares, and halt or reroute traffic. Keep all spectators a safe distance (at least 100 feet) from the scene. Electric power emergencies often occur when it is raining wet ground increases the hazard. After dark, light the scene as well as you can. Direct your spotlight on the broken or fallen wires. Remember that metal or cable guardrails, steel wire fences, and telephone lines may be energized by a fallen wire and may carry the current a mile or more from the point of contact. [Pg.200]

Acceptance criteria for deck board span ratings and guardrail systems (AC 174) prescribe that the concentrated (center-point) load at the deflection at 1/180 of the span shall be recorded. According to the AC and 2000 International Building Code, Section 1607.1, this load should be minimum 300 lb (on average of 15 specimens). As an alternative requirement, the maximum deflection under 300 lb concentrated load should be 0.125 in. (Section 4.1.1 of AC 174). [Pg.280]

In June of 2005 and June 2006, AC174 was partially modified. It is now based on a newly introduced ASTM D 7032-05. Regarding guardrail system (guard and handrail), the ASTM says (Section 6.2) that for in-fill load fesf a railing system should resisf a load of 125 Ibf applied over a 1 fF area normal fo in-fill (Section 6.2.2). The figure of 125 Ibf came from 50-lbf load multiplied by the safety factor of 2.5. This requirement is essentially the same as described above. [Pg.306]

Finally, according to new AC174, a concentrated 500-lb load shall be applied to the guardrail system at the maximum guardrail height (ASTM D 7032, Sections... [Pg.307]

ASTM D 7032 Standard Specification for Establishing Performance Ratings for Wood-Plastic Composite Deck Boards and Guardrail Systems (Guards or Handrails) ... [Pg.402]

The standard method was withdrawn in 2002. The main reason to describe it in this chapter is that this method was referenced in ASTM D 7031 ( Standard guide for evaluating mechanical and physical properties of wood-plastic composite products ), issued in 2004, and in ASTM D 7032 ( Standard specification for establishing performance ratings for wood-plastic composite deck boards and guardrail systems (guards or handrails) ), issued in 2005. [Pg.438]

The Federal Highway Administration has approved the use of a guardrail-offset block made of 100% recycled wood and plastic. Although the product s initial cost is currently higher than for conventional block material, it is believed that the post will resist damage and deterioration better than conventional materials, thereby resulting in reduced overall lifecycle cost... [Pg.126]

In May 1992, Alberta Transportation and Utilities initiated a research project on the use of recycled plastic fence and guardrail posts. These posts were purchased and distributed to districts throughout the province as alternatives to wood posts. The cost of these plastic fences and guardrail posts was somewhat higher than for corresponding wood posts... [Pg.126]

North Carolina reports that recycled plastic guardrail blockouts actually work much better than wood and can often be reused after a crash. One of the applications is that of recycled plastic marine pilings. The plastic pilings eliminate the concern of wood-treated post releasing chemicals to the water body, and are not susceptible to the marine-borer worm... [Pg.127]
