Guarding distance

Specifications for nest box placement and predator guards should also be included. Specifics of nest box placement will depend on the behavior of avian species being monitored. Inter-box distances and orientation to test areas are two parameters that may vary widely with the organism being smdied. Predators vary from area to area, and if nest boxes are near tree canopies, predation from above may in fact be the dominant route of predator intrusion rather than the standard access from the ground. [Pg.943]

Fig. 5. An analysis of a coarse atmospheric aerosol extract by CE and IC [49]. CE conditions a 57 cmX75 xm I.D. capillary, distance to detector, 50 cm. Electrolyte 2.25 mM PMA (pyromel-litic acid), 0.75 mM HMOH (hexamethonium hydroxide), 6.50 mM NaOH and 1.60 mM TEA (triethanolamine), pH 7.7 or 2.0 mM NDC (2,6-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid), 0.5 mM TTAB (tetradecyltrimethylammonium bromide) and 5.0 mM NaOH, pH 10.9 30 kV (PMA) or 20 kV (NDC) pressure injection for 10 s indirect UV detection at 254 nm (PMA) or 280 nm (NDC). IC conditions an IonPac-ASlO column with an IonPac-AGlO guard precolumn conductivity detection using an anion self-regenerating suppressor (ASRS-I) in the recycle mode. Analytes 2, chloride 3, sulfate 5, nitrate 6, oxalate 7, formate 10, hydrocarbonate or carbonate 11, acetate 12, propionate 14, benzoate. Fig. 5. While work on improved spectrometric methods continues, imaging techniques are and will continue to be powerful sensing tools to help guard against threats. Potential advantages of improved imaging techniques include the ability to assess threats in real time (allowing ample time for effective countermeasures) and the improved capability to detect threats at a distance before populations and valued assets become affected. [Pg.28]

The reader can quickly understand why the Commandos found it necessary to have a v eapoQ that would kill a man, silently, out to a distance of a hundred meters. The criterion for such a weapon was that it be as efficient as possible, accurate, lethal, silent and compact. It was of paramount importance that enemy guards be eliminated in those situations where they could not be... [Pg.8]

Silently they meandered their ships into Venetian waters. A token force was left to guard the boats while the main group of pirates stealthily made their way toward the Church of San Pietro. In the distance, the pirates could hear the music and celebrations. They grinned at one another. The plan was going well. [Pg.36]

Army Laser Systems. Lasers perform a variety of functions and come in many shapes and forms. Dangerous lasers can be smaller than a pen or larger than a truck and every size and shape in between. Table 6-C lists several army-fielded systems. Several systems, such as the AN/VVG-2, are almost entirely phased out of the US Army inventory. They may, however, be found in foreign militaries or in National Guard or reserve units. The Nominal Ocular Hazard Distance and the Optical Distance should only be used as a general guide. Specific questions need to be addressed to the USACHPPM. [Pg.209]

In this formula Lt is the distance aperture slit — guard slit, S, the width of the aperture slit, L2 the distance guard slit — detection plane, and S2 is the width of the guard slit which can be calculated from... [Pg.118]

The largest observable d-spacing of such a camera depends on the limits of diffuse scattering in the detector plane. This limit — L — can be approximately calculated from the size of the aperture slits (St), the distance of the detector plane from the guard slits (Lj) and the size of the focus (a) [4], In real space one can write ... [Pg.207]
