Group safety milestones

Group milestones need to consider the big picture and the microcosm. In other words, we need to analyze the whole company or division and each small group within the organization. You will likely find that certain departments or job classifications jump out as experiencing a much higher incidence of accidents than others.

Safety celebrations for reaching group or individual safety milestones were not included in the incentive program mentioned earlier. Safety celebrations, although not considered by all to be part of an incentive plan, certainly represent a cash outlay from the company that benefits the worker. So, in a certain manner of speaking, safety celebrations are a type of incentive. 

With a view to transparent project execution, it is necessary to expound the most important safety aspects from time to time in a safety study according to the state of progress of the project and to discuss them in an expert group (project team, R D, safety department, engineering), to adopt them, and to document the results. Such a safety study is performed internally for all plants and should not be confused with that required under the extended requirements of the Stbrfallverordnung. In the course of plant planning, three milestones can be recorded [Henne 1994) ... 

An effective way to use group milestones is with safety celebrations however, the safety celebrations should recognize the entire group and look at the big picture. K you have a business that has various remote locations, the safety celebration should include not only those team members who are stationed from that location but also selected persons from the home office who were instrumental in the project s success. Selected persons would include all of those team members who were closely associated with the project. Someone needs to make a decision regarding who gets invited and who does not. My philosophy is that if there is doubt about whether team members had enough involvement to be invited, invite them. If those team members located at a remote site were truly members of the team, or even if they think they were members of the team, invite them. In the Chapter and Practice Specialty Pavilion, chapters, regions, practice specialties and common interest groups will tell their stories and offer information and displays... 

The reason that such a long period was chosen as the first era was because these principles remained unchallenged until the advent of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974. The grouping of the railways into the four main line companies in 1921 and Sections 41 to 43 of the Road and Rail Traffic Act 1933 were but milestones rather than changes in direction.
