Grease aviation

Some applications of the synthetic fluids are motor oil, trucks, marine diesel, transmissions and industrial lubricants, aviation and aerospace lubricants, fire-resistant fluids, and greases. Specifications for several military lubricants can be met only by a synthetic product. All commercial and military jet aircraft engines use synthetic lubricants, in addition to the space shuttle, NASA, and nuclear submarines. 

Petroleum products are any petroleum-based products that can be obtained by refining (Chapter 2) and comprise refinery gas, ethane, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), naphtha, gasoline, aviation fuel, marine fuel, kerosene, diesel fuel, distillate fuel oil, residual fuel oil, gas oil, lubricants, white oil, grease, wax, asphalt, as well as coke. Petrochemical products (Speight, 1999a) are not included here. 

Hydrogenated castor oil retains the hydroxyl group. Its lithium and other alkali metal soaps are outstanding thickeners, providing a gel structure important to the multipurpose greases that are used for automotive, truck, aviation, railroad, and industrial applications. Insolubility of the hydroxyl stearic soap is the key to the formation of a stable and diuable gel strueture. Castor oil is also often used in cosmeties as simple esters, mono- and diglyeerides, glycol esters, and hydroxyl stearates. 

Other synthetic industrial oil applications with PAO-based lubricants, include gas turbine, wind turbine and food-grade gear lubricants. Synthetic greases based upon PAO are used in industrial equipment, aviation and automotive applications that take advantage of the wide operating...
