Infrared spectra of fats and oils are similar regardless of their composition. The principal absorption seen is the carbonyl stretching peak which is virtually identical for all triglyceride oils. The most common appHcation of infrared spectroscopy is the determination of trans fatty acids occurring in a partially hydrogenated fat (58,59). Absorption at 965 - 975 cm is unique to the trans functionaHty. Near infrared spectroscopy has been utilized for simultaneous quantitation of fat, protein, and moisture in grain samples (60). The technique has also been reported to be useful for instmmental determination of iodine value (61). [Pg.132]

The ductile-to-britde transition temperature (DBTT) is dependent on purity, history, grain size, etc. Furthermore, the potential utility of the metal is impaired by the fact that the ductility below this transition is essentially nil. To achieve measurable ductility, impurities should be below O, 2000 ppm N, 100 ppm C, 100 ppm H, 20 ppm Si, 1500 ppm S, 150 ppm. [Pg.114]

Pollutant Loading Typical inlet concentrations to cartridge collectors are 1 to 23 grams per cubic meter (g/m ) (0.5 to 10 grains per cubic foot (gr/ft )). Cartridge filters, which utilize synthetic, nonwoven media such as needle punched felts fabricated of polyester or Nomex, are able to handle inlet concentrations up to 57 g/m (25 gr/ft ). [Pg.413]

Low-pressure SF products can have characteristic surface splay patterns. However, the utilization of increased mold temperatures, increased injection rates, or grained mold surfaces will serve to minimize or hide this surface streaking. Finishing systems like... [Pg.363]

In addition to microwave plasma, direct current (dc) plasma [19], hot-filament [20], magnetron sputtering [21], and radiofrequency (rf) [22-24] plasmas were utilized for nanocrystalline diamond deposition. Amaratunga et al. [23, 24], using CH4/Ar rf plasma, reported that single-crystal diffraction patterns obtained from nanocrystalline diamond grains all show 111 twinning. [Pg.2]

One of the important limitations of these methods, in their current state of development, is the necessity to conduct a new coarse-graining for each new type of polymer that is simulated. Major opportunities to increase the utility of this class of simulations lie in the development of methods, which make the mapping to the coarse-grained structure (and the reverse-mapping back to the structure expressed in fully atomistic detail) as general (and painless) as possible when new polymers are treated. This area is the subject of continuing work by all four groups. [Pg.154]

GC, utilizing flame ionization detection (FID), has been used to measure diisopropyl methylphosphonate in meat, grain, or milk (Caton et al. 1994). Sample preparation steps include homogenization, filtration, dialysis, and extraction on a solid sorbent. Two common solid phase extractants, Tenax GC and octadecylsilane bonded silica gel (C18 Silica), were compared by Caton et al. (1994). They reported 70% recovery when using Tenax GC and 85% recovery when using C18 Silica. Sensitivity was not reported. Equilibrium experiments indicate that 8-10 mg of Tenax GC are required to achieve maximum recovery of each g of diisopropyl methylphosphonate (Caton et al. 1994). By extrapolating these... [Pg.130]
