Recent analytical studies have indicated that mono-, di-, and trimethyltin compounds are present in environmental samples at nanogram levels [Braman, R. S., and Tompkins, ijl.A., Analyt. Chem. 51, 12 (1979) Hodge, V. F., Seidel, S. L., and Goldberg, E. D., ibid. 51, 1256 (1979)].

An increased level of exploratory activity immediately after exposure, attributed to reduced anxiety on the part of the rats, was also observed in this study. Decreased avoidance was observed in rats exposed to 125 ppm trichloroethylene 4 hours per day, 5 days per week for 30 days (Goldberg et al. 1964a). Changes in visually evoked potentials (Blain et al. 1992) and electroretinal responses to flash stimulation (Blain et al. 1994) were seen in rabbits exposed to 350 ppm trichloroethylene for 12 weeks (4 days/week, 4 hours/day). The study authors suggested that binding of trichloroethanol to blood proteins may enable it to reach the visual cortex. 

Initial U concentration. If uranium concentration has changed as a result of diagenetic reactions, one may, in principle detect this by comparison between uranium concentrations in modem corals and their fossil counterparts. Early work documenting and studying uranium concentrations in corals is extensive (e g., Barnes et al. 1956 Tatsumoto and Goldberg 1959 Veeh and Turekian 1968 Schroeder et al. 1970 Thompson and Livingston 1970 Gvirtzman et al 1973 Amiel et al. 1973 Swart 1980 Swart and Hubbard 1982 Cross and Cross 1983). This broad body of data shows that primary surface coral uranium concentrations lie between 1.5 and 4 ppm (see Fig. 1). Concentrations appear to be species dependent (Cross and Cross 1983). Furthermore, uranium concentrations vary within individual coral skeletons (Schroeder et al. 1970 Shen and Dunbar 1995 Min et al. 1995). 

It is worth noting that the Ullmann-Goldberg condensation of aryl halides with phenols and anilines worked efficiently in the presence of copper in water.50 For example, the coupling of 2-chlorobenzoic acid with 4-chlorophenol (K2C03/pyridine/copper powder) gave 2-(4-chlorophenoxy)carboxylic acid (Eq. 6.23).51 The Cu(I)-catalyzed transformation of 2-bromobenzoic acid into salicylic acid has also been studied in aqueous media (Eq. 6.24).52...

Goldberg (2002) found no evidence of any competition in sorption of arsenate and arsenite on Al or Fe-oxides and montmorillonite, but only a small and apparent competitive effect of equimolar arsenate on arsenite sorption on kaolinite and illite. The minor competitive effect in this study was due to the small concentrations of arsenic which is very low for saturation site. Competition for sorption sites is evident by increasing the surface coverage of the sorbents. Arsenate prevents arsenite sorption on metal oxides when the surfaces of the sorbents are saturated by the anions (Jain and Loeppert 2000 Violante and Pigna 2002).

Goldberg [48] studied the relationship between pesticide concentrations in water and in sediments and its dependence on the specific surface area of the sediment.

A few of these conceptual models formed the basis of a more advanced study with computers (see below) [145].
