Glycolic acid cream

After the mixture is congealed, add glycolic acid and triisopropanolamine. [Pg.165]

Continue agitation until a uniform consistency is obtained. The pH of the cream is 3.8. [Pg.165]

Azelaic acid is a non-phenolic derivative (1,7-hep tanedicarboxylic acid) used at concentration of 10-20% twice a day to treat melasma with minimal side effects (allergic reactions). It acts to disturb the tyrosinase synthesis and can be used as a bleaching agent in patients sensitive to hydroquinone. Better results are obtained if a glycolic acid cream is applied sequentially to azelaic acid treatment. [Pg.153]

Wrinkles can only be improved by using deep peels folds usually only respond to surgery, support threads or fillers. An improvement in the appearance of fine lines can be seen after 4-6 months of daily application of 10-12% glycolic acid cream. [Pg.58]

If, on the other hand, a patient cannot tolerate a concentration of tretinoin at 0.05%, applying an 8-10% glycolic acid cream in the morning will make a tretinoin cream at 0.015% applied in the evening more effective, at the same time as reducing the irritation caused by the retinoid. These combinations must always be used under close medical supervision, however, as in dual therapy, skin reactions can be highly unpredictable and severe in some patients. More sensitive skins can be treated as follows ... [Pg.59]

Glycolic acid creams, cleansers, and exfoliating preparations are used to boost epidermal exfoliation, reduce stratum corneum thickness and augment the peel penetration, thus enhancing the uniformity of the light chemical peel. Pretreatment is also essential for combination medium-depth peels. [Pg.137]

Since TCA in higher concentrations tends to produce increased scarring and hypopigmenta-tion, 70% glycolic acid solution was applied to the entire face of patients and diluted with water after 2 min. This was followed by the sequential application of EMLA cream (lidocaine 2.5% and prilocaine 2.5%) or ELA-Max cream (lidocaine 4%) to selected areas on the face for 30 min without occlusion. These agents were then removed and 35% TCA was applied to the entire face [10]. [Pg.16]

Patients of varying skin types (1-V) having striae distensae alba on the abdomen or thighs can apply topical 20% glycolic acid daily to the entire treatment area. In addition, these patients apply 10% L-ascorbic acid, 2% zinc sulfate, and 0.5% tyrosine to half of the treatment area and 0.05% tretinoin emollient cream to the other half of the treatment area. The creams are applied on a daily basis for 12 weeks. Improvement is evaluated at 4 and 12 weeks with increased elastin content within the reticular and papillary dermis [14]. [Pg.19]

Glycolic acid can be applied simultaneously with TCA, which represents another technique for a medium-depth peel. Glycolic acid is also used in creams for self-treatment. Since complications such as hyperpigmentation, infection, irritation, and photosensitivity are very rare, it is well tolerated. [Pg.20]

The concomitant use of various bleaching agents has also been shown to improve PIH. In 1975, tretinoin in combination with hydroqui-none and dexamethasone was reported as an effective treatment for PIH [14]. In a small study, the application of 2% hydroquinone and 10% glycolic acid gel twice daily and 0.05% tretinoin cream at night has been shown to provide benefit for darker-skinned patients with PIH [15]. Similarly, Yoshimura et al. [16] suggested efficacy of tretinoin combined with hydroquinone and lactic acid in reducing PIH. More re-... [Pg.179]

In an own controlled study we treated 12 psoriatic patients with a glycolic acid lotion 15% versus a 0.05% betamethasone valerate cream.63 TEWL (Evaporimeter EP1, ServoMed, Sweden), Laser Doppler (Perimed-Periflux, Sweden), and skin color (Chroma Meter CR-200, Minolta, Japan) were taken at baseline and on day 5-10-15 on psoriatic lesions. Erythema a value was used for monitoring. The results of the study showed that ... [Pg.138]
