Glycoconjugated isoxazolidine-fused chlorins and bacteriochlorins were also elegantly synthesised using a 1,3-DC approach (Scheme 26). For instance, the galactosylnitrone reacted with porphyrin Id in a small volume of toluene, at 60 °C, to yield chlorin 75, accompanied by a small amount of two related bacteriochlorins <02TL603>. 

This review covers the recent advances in the use of O-glycosyl imidates in oligosaccharide and glycoconjugate synthesis, with emphasis on literature published between 1999 and 2006. However, because of the large volume of work in this area, only the most representative applications will be presented. One can refer to the similar preceding review [381] published in 2000 and another quite comprehensive review [375] on trichloroacetimidate method published in 1994 for earlier application of glycosyl trichloroacetimidates. Trifluoroacetimidate method will be discussed separately in this review in the light of its less popularity in carbohydrate chemistry. 

This volume contains the papers presented in a symposium on carbohydrate-protein interaction. The symposium was devoted to an exploration of protein-glycoconjugate interaction in a wide range of biological phenomena the interaction of enzymes, antibodies, and lectins with complementary carbohydrate molecules the recognition of carbohydrate-containing structures by chemoreceptors such as taste and other plasma membrane proteins and the role of carbohydrates in the organization of connective tissue. 

A large amount of sputum is a characteristic manifestation of DPB. Sputum volume markedly decreases after EM therapy. The reduction of sputum volume is the most sensitive parameter as shown by the double-blind study mentioned here. Goswami et al. [11] first reported that EM dose-dependently inhibited mucous secretion from airway mucosa with a marker of glycoconjugate in vitro. Tamaoki et al. [12] first observed in vitro ion transport on epithelial cells and reported that EM dose-dependently inhibited ion transport when erythromycin attached to the serosa. Furthermore, they found this inhibition was due to blocking of the chloride channel. The inhibition of the chloride channel also means that erythromycin inhibits the secretion of water that moves with the chloride ion. Inhibition of mucus and water secretion from the epithelial cells can be interpreted as an important mechanism of action in improving hypersecretion in patients with DPB. 

Fort and coworkers studied the aggregation and protein binding properties of amphiphilic rod-coil type of glycoconjugates (111 and 112, Fig. 19) synthesized using click chemistry between suitably functionalized precursors [109].
