Gluconic acid ammonium salt

Carboxylic acids and their salts, as well as alcohols and alkoxides, are common ligands and this has limited their use as reductants in synthesis. Potassium hexachloroplatinate(IV), for example, is reduced by ammonium oxalate.63 Che and coworkers 4 have shown that the reaction of aqueous solutions of ascorbic acid with the complex, [Ru02(NH3)4]Cl2, in the presence of NaX (X = Cl, I, CNS) yields the complexes, [RuX2(NH3)4]X. The reduction of a mixture of hydrated ruthenium(III) chloride and ruthenium(IV) chloride by glucose or ascorbic acid in water in the presence of 2,2 -bipyridyl results in the formation of [Ru(bipy)3]Cl2 7H20. 5 Additionally, the reduction of the [Tc04] anion by gluconic acid has been studied. ... 

Boron zirconimn chelates from ammonium hydroxide water-soluble amines sodium or potassimn zirconium and organic acid salts such as lactates, citrates, tartrates, glycolates, malates, gluconates, glycerates, and mandelates with polyols such as glycerol, erythritol, arabitol, xylitol, sorbitol, dulcitol, mannitol, inositol, monosaccharides, and disaccharides [463,464,1592,1593]... 

In most cases, after the hydrogen bromide had been removed, the resulting solutions were treated with various carbonates or with ammonium hydroxide to form the desired salts. The salts could be recrystallized directly from water or precipitated into ethanol. The choice of salt depended on circumstances thus, calcium D-gluconate crystallized well, but in the case of n-galactonic acid, the cadmium salt was preferable. The lead or cadmium salt was preferred when the free acid was desired since treatment of the aqueous solution or suspension with hydrogen sulfide easily removed the cation. The barium salts could be treated with the calculated amount of sulfuric acid and the calcium salts with oxalic acid for the same purpose.
