Enzymatic digestibility tests were done with 1.0% wlw glucan loading. Thus, total amount of solids in the reactor varied according to the glucan content in biomass. The reaction of enzymatic digestibility was carried out in 250 ml Erlenmeyer flask with total liquid volume of 100 ml. This test was carried out according to the NREL Chemical Analysis and Test procedures [32]. [Pg.572]

Most of the mannoproteins released during fermentation are excreted by the yeast as unused cell-wall material. Yeast polysaccharides are also released due to yeast parietal enzyme activity endo-fi-il, ))- and endo-j6-(l,6)-glucanases (Volume 1, Section 1.2). These enzymes are very active during alcoholic fermentation and, at a lower level, for several months after the death of the yeast cells (Llauberes, 1988). The resulting parietal autolysis (Charpentier et al., 1986) leads to the release of mannoproteins fixed on the parietal glucane... [Pg.85]

The heteropolysaccharides produced by Botrytis cinerea precipitate when larger amounts of alcohol are added (4 volumes). They foul filter layers much less than glucane. Unfortunately, they have an inhibiting effect on the metabolism of... [Pg.87]

Dextran is a complex, branched glucan (a polysaccharide made of many glucose molecules) composed of chains of varying lengths (from 3 to 2,000 kilodaltons). It is used medicinally as an antithrombotic (antiplatelet) agent, to reduce blood viscosity, and as a volume expander in hypovolaemia. [Pg.4]

The subcellular distribution of enzymes involved in a-o-glucan utilization in Klebsiella pneumoniae has been investigated, The eleventh volume in the series Current Topics in Membranes and Transport and entitled Cell Surface Glycoproteins Structure, Biosynthesis, and Biological Functions includes a chapter on the subject of glycoprotein membrane enzymes. ... [Pg.375]

Affinity Chromatography. The interaction of concanavalin A with alpha-D-glucans has been used in the determination of the fine structure of amylopectin and glycogen(88), where correlation between the external chain length of the glucan and the hydrodynamic volume has been established. [Pg.160]
