Containers Containers for hquids consist principally of drums, pads, and cans made of steel or plastic and of bottles and vials made of plastic or glass. The chemical industiy is often involved with all these containers, but the most frequently used packages for industrial chemicals are steel drums ana pails. For exotic products, stainless-steel drums and pails are available. The most common types used are 208-L (55-gal) drums and 19-L (5-gal) pails. [Pg.1952]

Other types of glass struetures used include rovings, yams, tapes, rovings fabrics and surfacing mats. [Pg.705]

The properties of the laminate are dependent on the resin and type of glass cloth used, the method of arranging the plies, the resin content and the curing schedule. Figure 29.4 shows how the flexural strength may be affected by the nature of the resin and by the resin content. [Pg.829]

In 1968 Wilson published an account of his early search for alternatives to orthophosphoric acid as a cement-former with aluminosilicate glasses. Aluminosilicate glasses of the type used in dental silicate cements were used in the study and were reacted with concentrated solutions of various organic and inorganic adds. Wilson (1968) made certain general observations on the nature of cement formation which apply to all cements based on aluminosilicate glasses. [Pg.307]

It is advisable before making a piece of apparatus such as a filter piunp to prepare all the separate components, since the work, if left whilst a component is made, may crack on re-heating—in fact if soda glass is used it probably will do so. Hence for a filter pump of the type shown in Figure 53, V, the jet, the cup, the side arm and the tube for the jacket are first made separately. [Pg.68]

Conveyor systems are applied in a number of areas in the rubber industry. The types used can range from simple canvas belt conveyors used for haul-off from conventional extruders, to systems used for transport and cooling of profile products, both in and emerging from continuous vulcanisation units. The latter types have to be resistant to the temperatures used in such systems and are variously constructed from glass fibre-reinforced polytetrafluoroethylene or a silicone rubber covered belt. [Pg.175]

Table 6.9 shows the enhancement ratios for aramid fibres versus glass fibres used in the same composite type. The enhancement ratios are the ratios of a property for an aramid fibre reinforced composite versus the same property for the glass fibre reinforced composite. [Pg.797]

The checkers used butylllthlura purchased from Lithium Alkyls which was standardized by titration with 2,5-dlmethoxybenzyl alcohol. The submitters used butylllthlum obtained from Aldrich Chemical Company, Inc. as a 1.55 M solution In hexanes which was measured by transfer to a septum-capped 250-mL graduated cylinder with a 15-gauge cannula and nitrogen back pressure. This solution was then transferred to the flask containing THF In the same manner. The THF must be cooled prior to addition of the butylllthlura. Stainless steel double-ended needles of the type used by the submitters are available from Aldrich Chemical Company, Inc. and Ace Glass, Inc. [Pg.9]

In addition, compomers contain extra monomers from conventional composites, and these contain acidic functional groups. The most widely used monomer of this type is so-called TCB, which is a di-ester of 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate with butane tetracarboxylic acid [271]. This acid-functional monomer is a very minor component and compomers also contain some reactive glass powder of the type used in glass-ionomer cements [266]. [Pg.362]
