Glass holders

A good alternative to burning candles is electronic candles — really LED lights that run on rechargeable batteries. The lights flicker just like normal candles and, because they re encased in a clouded glass holder, they still provide something like the cozy atmosphere of real candles. After all the tests, the platinum wire should be cleaned with concentrated hydrochloric acid. It is a good plan to store the wire permanently in the acid. A cork is selected that just fits into a test-tube, and a hole is bored through the cork through which the glass holder of the platinum wire is passed. The test-tube is about half filled with concentrated hydrochloric acid so that when the cork is placed in position, the platinum wire is immersed in the acid. [Pg.139]

Fusion and solution of a melt may be conducted either in a platinum wire loop or in a platinum spoon (0-5-1 ml capacity) attached to a heavy platinum wire and fused into a glass holder. [Pg.188]

Ground-glass holders are used by many glassblowers. The extra thickness of glass helps to prevent the ground surfaces being overheated and strained, or even deformed by melting. [Pg.106]

Air samples were taken in a central location of the crawl space, the kitchen, and a bedroom with personal-type air samplers (10). Polyurethane foam plugs (2 cm od. by 3 cm) contained in a glass holder were attached to the sampler. A 2-h sample was taken at a flow rate of 2.8 L of alr/mln. The holder and foam were removed, placed in plastic bags, and stored at -20C until analyzed. [Pg.267]

The CE of the experimental cell is a stainless steel strip connected to a Cu ring surrounding the external perimeter of the Teflon container. Electrical connection to the CE is made through carbon brushes pressed against this Cu ring. The RE is placed in a glass holder equipped with a salt bridge, which connects to the main electrolyte. Both the platen and the polisher head are rotated at the same velocity (80—100 rpm). [Pg.62]

Chemical Functionalization. Preparation of Si-lanized Samples. Prior to silanization, the titanium-coated glass cover slips were first pretreated by water—vapor—plasma cleaning (0.42 mbar, 2 min) and then dried in a vacuum for 1 h. Three hundred samples of Ti were incubated using a self-fabricated glass holder in 200 mL of dry toluene containing 2 mL of APTE S (43 mM) at 80 °C for 48 h. After reaction, the substrates were ultrasonicaUy washed with chloroform five times, acetone twice, and methanol five times, and were extensively rinsed with water, then dried in a vacuum, and cured at 100 C under N2 for... [Pg.217]

Fixed volume pipettes of 100 nL and 200 nL are available in the form of platinum-iridium capillaries melted in a glass holder. Repeatability of the volume dispensed by such a nanopipette is very good (< 1 %), but the absolute volume accuracy is only about 5%. This means that for quantitative analysis, all samples and calibration standards on one plate must be applied with the same nanopipette unless calibration is by internal standard. [Pg.133]

Poly(methyl methacrylate) sheet was cut into dumbbells, internal stresses were relaxed at about 130°C, and the samples were placed vertically into a sealed evacuated glass holder and irradiated at 1 to 3 Mrads. i ... [Pg.427]
