Give tone

Tbit preparation will eradicate every vestige of Humors from the Blood, and at the same time will give tone and strength to the system. [Pg.24]

Agrimony is an old remedy for debility, as it gives tone to the whole... [Pg.16]

The oxidation of higher alkenes in organic solvents proceeds under almost neutral conditions, and hence many functional groups such as ester or lac-tone[26,56-59], sulfonate[60], aldehyde[61-63], acetal[60], MOM ether[64], car-bobenzoxy[65], /-allylic alcohol[66], bromide[67,68], tertiary amine[69], and phenylselenide[70] can be tolerated. Partial hydrolysis of THP ether[71] and silyl ethers under certain conditions was reported. Alcohols are oxidized with Pd(II)[72-74] but the oxidation is slower than the oxidation of terminal alkenes and gives no problem when alcohols are used as solvents[75,76]. [Pg.24]

Milk. Imitation milks fall into three broad categories filled products based on skim milk, buttermilk, whey, or combinations of these synthetic milks based on soybean products and toned milk based on the combination of soy or groundnut (peanut) protein with animal milk. Few caseinate-based products have been marketed (1,22,23). Milk is the one area where nutrition is of primary concern, especially in the diets of the young. Substitute milks are being made for human and animal markets. In the latter area, the emphasis is for products to serve as milk replacers for calves. The composition of milk and filled-milk products based on skim milk can be found in Table 10. Table 15 gives the composition of a whey /huttermilk-solids-hased calf-milk replacer, which contains carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) for proper viscosity of the product. [Pg.447]

A tuning fork gives a pure tone, that is, a pressure variation represented by a sinusoid curve (Fig. 9.60). [Pg.791]

A sound is generally not a pure tone, as the latter is only emitted from particular sources. It can be demonstrated that a sound can be divided into different pure tones (superposition method). The waves at different frequencies give the spectrum of the sound, which also describes its energy distribution. In frequency analysis, the spectrum is divided into octave bands. An octave band is defined as the frequency range with its upper boundary twice the frequency of its lower boundary. For every octave band, a central band frequency ( f. ) is defined as follows ... [Pg.793]

Similarly, with two equivalents of DDQ, A -3-ketones give A -3-ketones in good yield ( 70%), without isolation of the intermediate A -3-ke-tone/ These trienones are also obtainable directly from A -3-alcohols with three equivalents of DDQ in refluxing dioxane (20 hr), and the overall yield ( 50%) compares favorably with less direct methods. The direct formation of A -3-ketones from A -3-ketones with acid catalysis is not successful. Enol derivatives have proven to be useful for the preparation... [Pg.311]

The reachons of -keto acid derivatives with tnfluoromethylsulfenyl chlonde give the a-tnfluoromethanesulfenyl substitution products [4 The products can be treated with a dunethyl sulfoxide-water soluhon to form tnfluoromethylthioke-tones or with potassium hydroxide solution to give tnfluoromethylthroacetic acid (equahon 3) (Table 2)... [Pg.545]

Recently, various polyesters such as poly(ethylene adipate), poly(tetramethylene adipate), poly(caprolac-tone), and poly(aliphatic carbonate), having terminal hydroxyl groups, were reacted with ACPC to give corresponding macroazoesters and their thermal behaviors were observed by DSC [14]. The block copolymers of these polycondensation polymers with addition polymers such as PSt and PMMA were synthesized [14]. [Pg.757]

Esters are reduced by PhSiHs, in the presence of Ph3P (C0)4MnC(0)Me 1847 as catalyst in benzene at room temperature, to give the ethers 1848 [75]. Caprolac-tone gives rise to 69% oxepane [75] (Scheme 12.20). Ethylthio esters such as 1849 and 1851 are reduced in high yields by triethylsilane 84b and 10% Pd/C in ace-... [Pg.272]

Me3SiO)2 1949 (2 equiv.) in CH2CI2 is added to a stirred mixture of 1 equiv. 4-phenylcyclohexanone, 25 mol% of both SnCLi. and trons-l,2-diaminocyclohexane, and some 4- molecular sieve in CH2CI2 at 25 °C to give, after 4.5 h, 91% caprolac-tone 1984 [159] (Scheme 12.75). [Pg.302]

Alkylamino groups are also employed in place of anilino groups at 2 -position to give black color, though the color tone is a little greenish. These include 6 -diethylamino-3 -methyl-2 -n-octylaminofluoran (60),61 and 3 -chloro-6 -diethylamino-2 -(2-ethoxyethylamino)fluoran (61).62... [Pg.179]

Energy-saving tight bulbs give off a more natural light when they are doped with europium, whose red component counteracts the cold blue tone. [Pg.66]

Altered release. Tetanus is an infectious disease caused by the bacterium Clostridium tetani. This bacterium produces a neurotoxin active on inhibitory synapses in the spinal cord. Motor neurons, which supply skeletal muscle and cause contraction, have cell bodies that lie in the spinal cord. Under normal circumstances, these motor neurons receive excitatory and inhibitory inputs from various sources. The balance of these inputs results in the appropriate degree of muscle tone or muscle contraction. Tetanus toxin prevents the release of gamma amino butyric acid (GABA), an important neurotransmitter active at these inhibitory synapses. Eliminating inhibitory inputs results in unchecked or unmodulated excitatory input to the motor neurons. The resulting uncontrolled muscle spasms initially occur in the muscles of the jaw, giving rise to the expression lockjaw. The muscle spasms eventually... [Pg.41]

Reductive bleaches are generally less costly than oxidative bleaches but tend to give a greenish white compared with the reddish white tones from peroxide. Combining the two in an oxidation/reduction sequence gives a more neutral white, this being known as a full... [Pg.149]
