Ghosh studies

Biltz prepared phenytoin by heating urea with a previously prepared alkaline alcoholic solution of benzil. Sikdar and Ghosh studied the mechanism of the Biltz technique and has shown the reaction to take place as shown in Scheme 2. 

NMR data for 4-methyloxazole have been compared with those of 4-methylthiazole the data clearly show that the ring protons in each are shielded. In a comprehensive study of a range of oxazoles. Brown and Ghosh also reported NMR data but based a discussion of resonance stabilization on pK and UV spectral data (69JCS(B)270). The weak basicity of oxazole (pX a 0.8) relative to 1-methylimidazole (pK 7.44) and thiazole (pK 2.44) demonstrates that delocalization of the oxygen lone pair, which would have a base-strengthening effect on the nitrogen atom, is not extensive. It must be concluded that not only the experimental measurement but also the very definition of aromaticity in the azole series is as yet poorly quantified. Nevertheless, its importance in the interpretation of reactivity is enormous. 

Numerous important contributions from Gassman, Almlof, and Ghosh include studies of chlorin 73 tautomerism (93JPC10964). Tlie 73a and the 73b forms of H2C have both been observed experimentally (see Section III,A,4), although it is well established that 73a is the predominant tautomer (see Sections III,A and III,A,3). Ghosh [548] used cellulose nitrate microporous filters (500 pm thick) as scaffold material to deposit octanol into the pores and then under controlled pressure conditions, displace some of the oil in the pores with water, creating a membrane with parallel oil and water pathways. This was thought to serve as a possible model for some of the properties of the outermost layer of skin, the stratum comeum. The relative proportions of the two types of channel could be controlled, and the properties of 5-10% water pore content were studied. Ibuprofen (lipophilic) and antipyr-ine (hydrophilic) were model drugs used. When the filter was filled entirely with water, the measured permeability of antipyrine was 69 (in 10 6 cm/s) when 90% of the pores were filled with octanol, the permeability decreased to 33 95% octanol content further decreased permeability to 23, and fully octanol-filled filters indicated 0.9 as the permeability.

Very recently, Ghosh and Mandal have reported (20) a thorough kinetic investigation of the polymerization of styrene in the two phase system water/o-dichiorobenzene using potassium persulfate as initiator and tetrabutylammoniurn bromide These studies were conducted at and pH, and found that the rate showed a square root dependence...

No evidence has been found for the mitosomal genome in any organism so far. An earlier study on E. histolytica reported the presence of DNA in Entamoeba mitosomes (Ghosh et al. 2000) and synonymized these organelles with DNA-containing structures named kinetoplast-like organelles (EhKO) (Orozco et al. 1997). However, work by Leon-Avila and Tovar (2004) later showed that EhKO and mitosomes are not related structures. Moreover, in situ nick translation coupled with immunofluorescence microscopy failed to detect the presence of DNA in Entamoeba mitosomes (Leon-Avila and Tovar... 

Other studies reporting benzene degradation under anaerobic conditions are similarly difficult to interpret. For instance, Ghosh Sun (1992) observed a loss of l6mg/l benzene over a 44 day period in a bioreactor that did not exhibit a detectable lag period prior to the onset of benzene removal. We can only presume that the bioreactor was not methanogenic as the ambient pH was 5.2-5.5, but no exogenously supplied electron acceptor was available. In this study, the abiotic loss observed in a single control bottle accounted for 50% of the total mass of benzene.
