Genetics Study Section

At the instigation of Matthew Meselson, the Genetics Study Section of the Division of Research Grants, National Institutes of Health, sponsored a small conference at the Jackson Laboratory on September 14, 1966. A report of the conference77 contained four recommendations ... [Pg.21]

The 1960 Macy Conference on Genetics (Schull 1962), the 1966 NIH Genetics Study Section symposium (Crow 1968), and the 1969 Public Health Services report, Pesticides and Their Relationship to Environmental Health (U.S. Department of Health 1969), were the most frequently mentioned sources for these reviews. [Pg.167]

This section explains how genetic studies with Drosophila and Caenorhabditis elegans have contributed to the discovery of the Ras signal-transduction pathway operative in mammalian cells. [Pg.261]

SHELLEY D. COPLEY is a professor of molecular, cellular and developmental biology at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Her research interests center on the molecular evolution of enzymes and metabolic pathways and protein structure-function relationships. Dr. Copley is a member of the Council of Fellows of the University of Colorado s Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences. Dr. Copley served on the NSF Molecular Biochemistry Panel (1999-2003), was co-chair for the Gordon Conference on Enzymes, Coenzymes, and Metabolic Pathways (2004), and currently serves on the National Institutes of Health Genetic Variation and Evolution Study Section. [Pg.115]

Researchers Identified the transcription factors downstream from TGFp receptors In Drosophila from genetic studies similar to those used to dissect receptor tyrosine kinase pathways (see Section 14.3). These transcription factors in Drosophila and the related vertebrate proteins are now called Smads. Three types of Smad proteins function in the TGFp signaling pathway receptor-regulated Smads (R-Smads), co-Smads, and Inhibitory or antagonistic Smads (TSmads). [Pg.575]

The variety of predictions based on the theory of adaptive variation in metabolism is illustrated within genetic research (Section 7.1), the production of natural products (Section 7.2), chemotaxonomy (Section 7.3), receptor studies (Section 7.4), and medicinal chemistry (Section 7.5). Contemporary procedures are subjected to criticism and reservations in the light of the present theory. Some of the examples are dealt with in this chapter. [Pg.699]
