Thomas Schreckenbach is a general partner and member of the Executive Board of Merck KGaA in Darmstadt, Germany. He is responsible for the Chemicals business sector, some Asian countries, and the Chemicals business in North America. He graduated from the University of Munich with a doctoral thesis in biochemistry. Profile Founded in June 1995, the company was formed to advance laboratory techniques in step with genomics and combinatorial chemistry. It was among the last companies formed by Avalon Ventures before it closed out its venture capital activities. Caliper s president and CEO was previously a general partner in Avalon. [Pg.234]

Possession or control means in possession or control of the submitter, or of any subsidiary, partnership in which the submitter is a general partner, parent company, or any company or partnership which the parent company owns or controls, if the subsidiary, parent company, or other company or partnership is associated with the submitter in the research, development, test marketing, or commercial marketing of the chemical substance in question. (A parent company owns or controls another company if the parent owns or controls 50 percent or more of the other company s voting stock A parent company owns or controls any partnership in which it is a general partner). Information is included within this definition if it is ... [Pg.111]

This regulatory definition was drafted before limited liability companies were widely used. State laws tend to treat limited liability companies like partnerships and so the rules applicable to partnerships should include limited liability companies. There is often no equivalent of a general partner in a limited liability company and it would be prudent to search the files of all limited liability companies in which the submitter has an interest. [Pg.112]

There is analogy in the development of protein-based materials. Bioelastics, Inc., the general partner to Bioelastics Research Ltd. (BRL), has been working for about 15 years to arrive at a killer app that could launch the protein-based material industry. More specifically, BRL has been developing the scientific and intellectual property foundation that would pave the way for the extraordinary materials capacity of protein-based polymers to result in successful commercial applications. [Pg.467]

PLEASE ENIER NAME(S) OF SOLE PROPRIETOR(S), OFFICERS OR PARTNERS AND TITLES (e.g. president treasurer, general partner, limited partner)... [Pg.49]

Originally established to accommodate personnel and guests of the U.S. Military Academy, managing general partner Rick Mini-cozzi (USMA, Class of 86) and his group were determined to rees-tahhsh its proper place as a world-class hotel and conference center. [Pg.46]

There is one special class of reaction systems in which a simplification occurs. If collisional energy redistribution of some reactant occurs by collisions with an excess of heat bath atoms or molecules that are considered kinetically structureless, and if fiirthennore the reaction is either unimolecular or occurs again with a reaction partner M having an excess concentration, dien one will have generalized first-order kinetics for populations Pj of the energy levels of the reactant, i.e. with... [Pg.1050]

A trade secret owner may also beneficially exploit the trade secret through licensing, sales, or various other business ventures based on the confidential information. Such cooperative ventures often raise other issues. Exploitation of trade secret information may also occur through the unintended disclosure of this information to the pubHc. Generally, the people who learn of trade secret information tend to be the trade secret owner s employees, customers, Hcensees, suppHers, and joint venture partners. [Pg.40]

The reaction is generally performed between 0 and 100 °C with the majority of the reactions being mn at reflux. Polar protic solvents such as methanol, ethanol, isopropanol, and water are commonly used as solvents. Addition of acid or use of acetic acid as solvent generally helps push sluggish reactions. The use of P-ketoesters as the dicarbonyl partner occasionally requires added base for cyclization to occur to form the pyrazolone. When using alkyl hydrazine salts, base may be required to deprotonate the hydrazine for the reaction to take place. [Pg.292]

A temporary agreement between two or more parties for the purpose of jointly carrying out some particular transactions or deal. Generally, one of the partners will be the operator for the venture. [Pg.32]

Active Figure 23.1 MECHANISM The general mechanism of a carbonyl condensation reaction. One partner becomes a nucleophilic donor and adds to the second partner as an electrophilic acceptor. [Pg.878]

In general, a mixed aldol reaction between two similar aldehyde or ketone partners leads to a mixture of four possible products. For example, base treatment of a mixture of acetaldehyde and propanal gives a complex product mixture containing two "symmetrical" aldol products and two "mixed" aldol products. Clearly, such a reaction is of no practical value. [Pg.885]

The aldol reaction is a carbonyl condensation that occurs between two aldehyde or ketone molecules. Aldol reactions are reversible, leading first to a /3-hydroxy aldehyde or ketone and then to an cr,/6-unsaturated product. Mixed aldol condensations between two different aldehydes or ketones generally give a mixture of all four possible products. A mixed reaction can be successful, however, if one of the two partners is an unusually good donor (ethyl aceto-acetate, for instance) or if it can act only as an acceptor (formaldehyde and benzaldehyde, for instance). Intramolecular aldol condensations of 1,4- and 1,5-diketones are also successful and provide a good way to make five-and six-inembered rings. [Pg.904]
