CMS and control mice in-groups of 5-10 were sacri ced and brains removed immediately to extract RNA. The expression of CB2 RNA was compared by real-time PCR system (TaqMan, ABI) using the CB2 cannabinoid receptor gene-speci c probe and primers. 

Fig. 4. C57B1/6 mice were subjected to acute and chronic mild stress and assessed for anhedonia (CMS animals) by weekly sucrose consmnption. Mice were sacri eed at the end of wk 4 or following acute stress, and the brains were quickly dissected to extract RNA for CB2 cannabinoid receptor gene expression by real-time PCR system using the gene-speci c probe and primers (T aqMan real-time PCR system, ABl 7900). CB2 gene expression was detected in the acute and chronic mild stress mice in the striatum (str), midbrain (mid), and the hippocampus (hip).

Genes are segments of chromosomes. Some of the genes are coded to give each animate species its characteristics (e.g., color and number of eyes, type of hair, muscle), and others are coded to produce the chemicals required for the organism to live (metabolism). 

Eor this reason, finding the location of the genes that control production, as well as the alleles, ie, DNA sequences, for superior production, is a significant strategy for engineering improved animal species through biotechnology. 

Other Microbial Systems. In addition to the systems described, gene cloning is routinely performed in several other bacterial strains including Streptoccocus Staphylococcus Brevibacterium BJdodobacter Comyebacterium Glucanobacter Acetobacter and Zanthomonas species. 

Structure—function relationships of prolactin among a variety of species have been pubUshed (17,18). Only one gene for prolactin appears to exist (19). Although classically placed in the category of simple protein hormones, prolactin can be glycosylated. Carbohydrate attachment occurs at Asn-31, where the consensus glycosylation sequence Asn—X—Ser is found.
