A potential drug-drug interaction has also been described for the combination of gemfibrozil with several statins. Studies in healthy volunteers have demonstrated that gemfibrozil increased the AUC and Cm ix of rosuvastatin by 1.9- and 2.2-fold, respectively [43]. These results could be confirmed in vitro using Xenopus oocytes. In these experiments, gemfibrozil inhibited OATPIBl-mediated rosuvastatin transport... 

Drugs that may interact with gemfibrozil include oral anticoagulants and lovastatin.

Myopathy caused by drug interactions The incidence and severity of myopathy are increased by concomitant administration of HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors with drugs that can cause myopathy when given alone, such as gemfibrozil and other fibrates, and lipid-lowering doses (greater than or equal to 1 g/day) of niacin (nicotonic acid).

In a randomized, open, three-way crossover, multiple-dose study in 12 healthy adult men there was no clinically significant interaction of ezetimibe with gemfibrozil (7).

In contrast, although in vitro studies have not shown any evidence of pharmacokinetic interactions between cerivastatin and gemfibrozil (77), there was myalgia and a marked increase in creatine kinase in a 74-year-old woman with normal renal function who took gemfibrozil 1200 mg/day 3 weeks after she started to take cerivastatin 0.3 mg/day (78).
