Since the beginning of papermaking in Western Europe, gelatin was used to reduce the sorption of water (paper sizing) by papers to improve the buffer effect and feathering of the inks [1], Nowadays, papers are sized with synthetic sizes such as alkyl ketene dimers (AKDs) and alkenyl succinic anhydrides (ASAs), which were developed for the paper industry in 1953 and 1974, respectively [2], but gelatin sizing continues to be used for artist quality papers. [Pg.178]

For researches of sorption properties a series of solutions of chloride of nickel with C (Ni ) = 0.05 mol/1,0.01 mol/1, and 0.005 mol/1 and sulfate of copper with (Cu ) = 0.05 mol/1, 0.01 mol/1, and 0.005 mol/1 were prepared. For sorption were used samples of water BIP-M and BP-M gelatin. Samples of polymeric matrixes in weight 5 g were located in plastic glasses and were filled in with the prepared solutions of chloride of nickel and sulfate of copper. Later 5 d contents glasses was filtered and washed out by the distilled water. The received polymer was left on drying for definition sorption abilities BIP-M and BP-M Gelatin and calculation to the SEC. [Pg.451]

After adjusting all the sorption curves, Rougier et al. [ROU 07] developed a model of the evolution of the parameters y, a and R depending on the composition in salt, fats and proteins. As a result, they accounted for the interactions between water, proteins and lipids. However, since lipid globules do not interact with the protein matrix, their presence simply leads to an increase in the amount of dry matter [IGL 77]. The equation of the curves of sorption for lipid-rich gelatin is thus written as ... [Pg.4]
