For this work, Beeck and Wheeler used a more elaborate vacuum system than had been used in the earlier exploratory work. They used large McLeod gauges for pressure measurements, with which non-... [Pg.159]

Absolute pressure is pressure measured relative to a perfect vacuum, an absolute 2ero of pressure (2). Like the absolute 2ero of temperature, perfect vacuum is never reali2ed in a real world system but provides a convenient reference for pressure measurement. The acceptance of strain gauge technology in the fabrication of pressure sensors is resulting in the increased use of absolute pressure measurement in the CPI (see Sensors). The pressure reference... [Pg.19]

Hot-Cathode Ionization Gauges. For pressures below approximately lO " Pa, it is not possible, except under carehiUy controlled conditions, to detect the minute forces that result from the coUision of gas molecules with a soHd wall. The operation of the ion gauge is based on ionisa tion of gas molecules as a result of coUisions with electrons. These ions are then subsequendy collected by an ion collector. Ionisa tion gauges, used almost exclusively for pressure measurement in high, very high, ultrahigh, and extreme ultrahigh vacuums, measure molecular density or particle dux, not pressure itself. [Pg.27]

Good-quality Bourdon tube test gauges are highly suitable for pressure measurements of more than 20psi. They should be calibrated against a... [Pg.695]

When the sputter-ion pumps are installed one should ensure that the magnetic fields will not interfere with the operation of other devices (ionization vacuum gauges, partial pressure measurement units, etc.). Mounting devices for the sputter-ion pumps may not short circuit the inductance flow and thus weaken the air gap inductance and pumping speed. [Pg.145]

Electrical Methods Electrical methods for pressure measurement include strain gauges, piezoresistive transducers, and piezoelectric transducers. [Pg.59]

For our system we chose the simplest approach — a fast sample conduit with quick quench into an evacuated sample container. For temperature measurements we used a similar probe outfitted with platinum/6% rhodium-platinum/30% rhodium thermocouple. For pressure measurements the same general type probe mentioned was employed but without extracting samples. This probe had one hole opening perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the probe such that when inserted into the reactor it could be rotated 360°. In this manner the pressures were read from a precision pressure gauge with the opening facing 0°, 90°, 180°, and 270° relative to the direction of flow in the reactor. [Pg.284]
