Gauge measurements

A comparison of the results achieved with the FEM Analysis and the rosetta strain gauge measurements is shown in fig. 19. Differences can be noted in areas labeled B and C. The former can be explained as an effect of the discrepancy between the actual shape of the vessel and the ideal one used in the F.E.M. model. The latter can be ascribed to the presence of a muff, located in the centre of the head of the actual vessel, which has not been taken into account in the model.

Vacuum gauges may be broadly classified as either direct or indirect (10). Direct gauges measure pressure as force pet unit area. Indirect gauges measure a physical property, such as thermal conductivity or ionisation potential, known to change in a predictable manner with the molecular density of the gas. 

In other words, TZ can be thought of as a gauge , measuring he relative importance of the purely inertial forces (as embodied by the v Vv term) and the viscous forces (as embodied by the term vV v, which provides the mechanism by which energy may be dissipated).

Mechanical vacuum gauges measure the pressure directly by recording the force which the particles (molecules and atoms) in a gas-filled space exert on a surface by virtue of their thermal velocity. 

Capsule vacuum gauges measure pressure accurately to 10 mbar (due to the linear scale, they are least accurate at the low pressure end of the scale). If only pressures below 30 mbar are to be measured, the DIAVAC is...

A depth gauge uses a unit of length such as feet or meters a speed gauge uses a unit of velocity such as miles per hour (mph) or kilometers per hour (kph) the RPM gauge measures revolutions per minute.
